Description of the work
1. Position in the organisational chart
The Agro Officer is part of the operational team of the EU-funded Panj-Amu River Basin Program (P-ARBP). The P-ARBP is a Natural Resources Management (NRM) program implemented during 44 months from 2011 to 2015 in 5 districts of Bamyan and Baghlan provinces.
He/She directly under the supervision of the Agro/CPBM Team Leader based in Saighan
The Agro officer is in charge to implement and monitor all agricultural activities on the program.
He/She is directly involved in training and extension work activities towards Progressive Relay Farmers (PRF) and Community-based structures in order to improve agricultural practices and natural resources management in the work area.
List of main tasks:
Assessment
Collect accurate data’s at field level and participate in data analysis
Assist in conducting initial assessment and baseline survey under the supervision of the Agro/CBPM team leader and the Research supervisor
· Help in evaluating extension work methods and training activities implemented by Solidarites International and other relevant organizations in targeted areas
· Help in setting up criteria for selecting targeted communities
· Assist in conducting assessment survey to control progress of program and efficiency of activities (impact survey, KAP survey…)
· Participate in consultancy missions
Implementation and operational monitoring
Mobilize the targeted communities and create awareness about the program activities
Give support for communication about the project principles and good coordination with local authorities and village leaders
Help in designing methods and tools for the implementation of agricultural activities: training, extension work, agricultural research activities (demo plots, research farm)
Help in setting up criteria for selecting Progressive Relay Farmers (PRF)
Select the PRF at field level
Participate actively in the preparation and organization of training for targeted PRF in close collaboration with the Agro-CBPM Team Leader and the Research supervisor
Monitor the implemented activities by regular visit on field using monitoring tools designed
Participate in data collection, data analysis and reporting on agricultural research activities’ results and main findings
Participate in organization of field visit on agricultural research activities implemented on the project
Organize and attend meetings on Natural Resources Management and innovative agricultural practices with the PRF and community-based structures
Anticipate, mitigate and propose solution to problem between communities or beneficiaries when it arises
Give technical support to the community team when asked
Reporting
Ensure a good coordination with the other teams of the project
Keep files and monitoring archived at the Solidarités International office accessible to the Program Manager
Share with the Agro/CBPM Team Leader and/or Program Manager every information about security, activities, logistics or administrative issues occurred at field level
Participate in the preparation of the regular program reports
Participate to the general program meetings (weekly, monthly…)
Communicate orally about any important issue in internal staff meetings
Education:
- University degree in environment and/or Agriculture
Experience:
- At least 4 years of working experience
- At least 2 years of working experience in rural development program
- Strong field experience of work with rural communities
- Past experience in Central Highlands or other any mountainous areas is a plus
Technical Skills:
- Perfect knowledge in agronomy
- Knowledge in participatory approach
- Knowledge in needs-based crop management
- Data Collection and analysis
- Practices of computer (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Reporting skills
- Good knowledge in training and extension works
Language:
- Fluent in spoken and written Dari
- Good spoken and written English
Personal skills:
- Humanitarian commitment
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in remote areas
- Ability to easily adapt to different situations
