Duties and Responsibilities:

The MDD Operations Officer under the direct supervision of the Sr. Operations Manager and general direction from the Chief of Operations is responsible for the following assigned tasks:

• Supervise and manage the Mine Detection Dogs tests and licensing processes.
• Monitor the current operations by regular field visits.
• Conducts regular analysis of the MDD operations to ensure the MDD part of the demining tool box is up to the standard.
• Conduct researches on MDD related matter to ensure MDD operations is continually improved
• Coordinate with the GICHD the MDD related trials and provide technical advices to the MACCA chief of operations with regard to further development of MDD Operations in Afghanistan
• Make continual efforts to find practical solutions with regard to the challenges ahead MDD mine clearance operations in order to enhance the level of confidence for MDD operations
• Preparation of briefing documents for operation meeting.
• Control the daily attendance of all personnel in the current MDD operations staff.
• Review all MDD SOP’s from MDD organizations in Afghanistan.
• Preparation of reports and statistics related to MDD operations
• Maintenance and control of tasks for MDD testing.
• Provide technical advice on MDDs procedures and implementation for field operators.
• When required coordinate with MDD organizations on operations matters.
• Review the locations for licensing testing.
• Ongoing review of the Afghanistan National Mine Action Standards as applicable to MDD.
• Make sure the MDD related database is kept updated
• Be a member of accident investigation teams as requested by the MACCA for MDD.
• Provide an annual work plan to the Chief of Operations.
• Carry out any other tasks assigned by the MACCA Chief of Operations.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Science or other related fields, or secondary diploma with 2 years of additional relevant work experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years experience in mine dog operations/training and a solid understanding of MDD training, dog licensing and accreditation processes.
• Experience at working with foreigners and international organizations.
• Fluency in written and spoken English and local languages, specifically Pashto and Dari

Other Competencies

• Thorough knowledge of International Mine Action Standards (IMAS) and of demining SOPs including the use of Mine Detection Dogs.
• Thorough knowledge of IMSMA.
• A solid understanding of MDD clearance operations and related practices.
• Sound computer skills.
• Self reliant and able to work independently and to a deadline.
• Excellent computer skills.
