The Borlaug Institute, affiliated with Texas A&M University System (TAMUS), leads international food security and agricultural development initiatives. Named in honor of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Dr. Norman Borlaug, the Institute continues his legacy by advancing global food security, livelihoods, and resilience through applied agricultural science, research, and extension. Its mission is to uplift small-holder farmers from poverty and hunger through agricultural innovation.
Project Background
The Norman Borlaug Institute for International Agriculture and Development has secured a fund from USAID to implement the Young Women Lead (YWL) program from September 28, 2023, to September 27, 2025. This program aims to empower young Afghan women to successfully complete short tertiary trainings and professional development programs, equipping them with skills and connections vital for pursuing careers in Afghanistan. Additionally, it fosters a supportive, inclusive environment, promoting collaboration and peer-to-peer learning among participants.
The Program Assistant will assist in administrative and coordination tasks for the YWL program in Kabul and report to the Senior Program and M&E Manager (SPMEL). She/He will assist with scholarship beneficiaries and partner universities, managing programmatic, operational, and administrative matters. This includes assisting with facilitating seminars, meetings, and special projects, ensuring timely processing of student agreement modifications and payments, and providing support to scholarship recipients and their parents throughout the process.
•Assist with activities between students and partner university staff administering the YWL program.
•Assist in the development and preparation of orientations and presentations for YWL students. Assist Program Officers and the SPMEL in organizing welcome training and other events.
•Assist in maintaining effective communication with students, university administrators, and YWL staff to ensure successful completion and assessment of activities.
•Assist in keep record keeping f scholarship beneficiaries, including updated contact and academic information in the program database.
•Support event planning, coordination, and implementation.
•Assist the YWL team in generating data reports as needed.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
•Bachelor's Degree preferred.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
•Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
•Experience or familiarity working with USAID projects preferred.
•Fluency in English, Dari, or Pashto required.
Level of Effort
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, with office hours from Sunday through Thursday.
Reporting
The Program Assistant will report directly to the Senior Program and M&E Manager.
