Who we are
Oxfam has been worked in Afghanistan since 1990s. The programme currently consists of operational intervention in Dai kundi (NSP) programme and Badakhshan. The country office is based in Kabul looking after all programs in the field. The country office has responsibility for representing in Oxfam within Afghanistan, for communication and for provision of service to all programmes in Afghanistan. In addition to its long-term programmes through development approach, Oxfam also undertakes, if necessary operation when and where required in Afghanistan
The Job purpose
To be responsible for the management of the agricultural activities elements of Oxfam’s programme in Badakhshan
•To establish wheat demonstration plots for identification of adoptable varieties of wheat for the village farmer and explaining them about benefits.
•Regular monitoring and supervision of plots under improved wheat seed cultivation for controlling quality and quantity of distributed improved wheat seed.
•To be responsible for establishing agriculture combine project like Erosion control pasture land, water harvesting, land terracing and watershed management through participatory by methods with CDO s /local shoras.
•To encourage local farmers in accepting modern agricultural methods and techniques by experimental practical activities.
•I identifying and training local people to become local agricultural resource persons for their own village. This is to be achieved by working in a participatory manner with the local farmers and ensuring that they are actively involved throughout the Oxfam agricultural programme .in respect to this it will be the utmost importance to identify means to how the women of the community can be involved.
•Communicating with other NGOs in the region with regards to the agricultural development that they are carrying out and using this information to assist with the development of Oxfam s own programme.
•Proper technical implementation of Oxfam agricultural project activates according the plan in the natural of Oxfam policies and regulations.
•Proper written monthly report regarding agricultural activities and its impact on port farmers’ life.
•Take initiative in respect to agricultural related issues in the target areas (Unforeseen reduction /increase in yields, new diseases etc).
•To develop the local farmers capacity through conducting trainings, workshop ,seminars ,demonstration plot establishment , supervision, given technical advises and defining modern techniques.
•To be responsible for implementation of seed multiplication and distribution of improved varieties.
•To ensure the village seed bank farmers are linked to multiplier farmers for procurement improved seed.
•To work as a team member of OXFAM and ensure to transfer some technical knowledge to Oxfam female staff for assisting kitchen gardeners where access to women are limited.
•To establish and strengthening farmers group and farmers filed school.
•To ensure that seed bank committee are trained on seed bank management and all distributed seed reimbursed, sold and new improved seed procured and distributed to the genuine beneficiaries.
•To play an active role during handling over of Oxfam activities to partners.
Essential
•University degree from faculty of Agriculture on agronomy
•Understanding of development and relief issues and practise in agricultural production: particularly crops, and soil fertility. It will be of advantage to have strong knowledge in crop production and kitchen gardening, especially that on wheat vegetables and legumes
•Knowledge of gender equity, gender equity and perspective
•3-5 years working within the agriculture sector and with a degree in agriculture or similar discipline
•Takes responsibility for own work and delegated project/processes (including some leadership)
•Be of very good health and fitness, as the work will involve much travelling by horse and walking between the partner villages. Prepared to live in isolated areas with very little facilities
•Fluent written and spoken Dari
Desirable
•Knowledge of research on agriculture excremental design and practices
•Be able to work in isolated areas with low facilities and travel by horses and long walk between the target villages
•Effective member of team and role model; demonstrates creativity in seeking better ways to do things and shares with team, and promotes high standards
•Anticipates problems and regularly provides solutions
