PART 1 – JOB DESCRIPTION
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
To effectively facilitate and mobilize the communities in Kandahar city/ in close coordination with the Community Supervisor in order to improve their water, sanitation and hygiene needs.
LINE MANAGEMENT / POSITION IN ORGANISATION
Grade C3
Reports to the Community Supervisor
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Mobilise the community, using participatory and developmental approaches.
2. Teach community on PHAST and CLTS components and encourage community to avoid open defecation
3. Assist the community to understand priorities in water, sanitation and hygiene and identifying their roles, coping mechanisms, capacities and vulnerabilities.
4. Encourage and promote positive learning between the project staff and the communities.
5. Select the beneficiaries for the project together with the communities, based on vulnerabilities and needs.
6. Work with the Community Supervisor and other members of the team to build relationship with the community and mobilise them to be prepared and aware of disasters.
7. Mobilise the women (for Female Community Facilitators) of the community for the specific aspects of the programme targeting them.
8. Carry out interviews with community groups
9. Monitor progress of the project in the field and report to the Project Manager on progress
10. Make simple work plans for the activities
11. Recording and filing all community exercises
12. Create recording system at community level, encouraging community ownership and sustainability
13. Participate in reviews and evaluations.
Technical Oversight
14. Ensure intervention meets agreed international standards for sector. (e.g. Sphere, People in Aid, HAP & Tearfund Standards, etc)
15. Ensure compatibility within local cultural norms, paying particular attention to gender issues.
Communication/ Coordination
1. Responsible for proper communication/coordination in all work related matters with the Community Supervisor and Project Manager
2. Ensure to involve the Community Supervisor and team in all the major work related decisions.
3. Ensure to inform the Project Manager with all the related security issues and other vital information.
4. Maintain a good relationship with the other members of the team.
Networking with Families
5. Maintain good relationships with the beneficiaries and their families in order to understand their perspective on the project and to assist in the success in the project.
GENERAL:
Any other duties as determined by the Line Manager.
ESSENTIAL
At least finished grade 12
High standard of written and spoken Pashto
Knowledge of participatory community development and the role of women;
Knowledge and practical application of gender issues.
DESIRABLE
University Degree
Diploma or other educational certificate in community mobilisation.
Computer experience
Basic understanding of English
Good participatory assessment techniques and skills;
Excellent interpersonal relationships, networking and communication skills at community level;
Good presenters at community level, using appropriate messages and methods.
