WORK CONTEXT / BACKGROUND:
Maternal and Under-5 Nutrition and Child Health Project (MUNCH) project is a three year initiative whose goal is to meet basic health needs and reduce vulnerability of the people in Western Afghanistan, with a focus on women and girls in three Western provinces of Herat, Badghis and Ghor. The project will achieve this through 1) enhancing healthy nutritional practices by mothers, new-borns and children under five, and 2) increasing equitable and gender sensitive health services to mothers, new-borns and children under five. The target population for this project is nearly 2 million people in three provinces.
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
1. This is a full-time, grant-funded CIDA MUNCH position. The Community Mobilizer will be responsible for the mobilization and coordination of communities in the area of operation. The successful applicant will be responsible for community related activities, provide workshops and arrange meetings with the community for orientation of the program, identifying and solving field challenges pertaining MUNCH implementation between the communities. This position will also advise other project staff on cultural issues relating to different communities so as to ensure staff conducts themselves appropriate to the context
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
SPENT
I. Community Mobilization and Advocacy 70 %
Provide project orientation to community leadership, Shuras, Health Committees, and other community members and stakeholders.
Advocate and obtain community agreement, willingness and participation in MUNCH project activities.
Liaise effectively between World Vision and community, provide necessary feedback both ways.
Provide workshops and arrange meetings with community leaders, religious leaders, and other community members to enhance cooperation and transparency in project activities and to promote gender awareness.
Provide follow up to Health Committees and help them understand and undertake their responsibilities.
Ensure community readiness for participation in training activities, surveys and other MUNCH activities in their area.
Provide other MUNCH staff with information on area of operation to guide their conduct and methodology for engaging with communities.
Work with Health facility staff, CHWs and IYCF in mobilizing communities for maternal and under % child nutrition health related activities.
Develop work plans and compile reports on mobilization activities.
2. Security 30%
Establish solid relations with community leaders for gathering security information and be aware of challenges and changes in security and update the Nutrition Supervisor of potential threats.

Work Environment:
Incumbent is expected to be familiar with area of operation and should spend the majority of their time in the field.
