Job Summary
On a regular shift base, the Dari and/or Pashto Interpreter provides language assistance services for clients. The Dari and/ or Pashto Interpreter adheres to standards of professional conduct for interpreters, assuring accuracy, impartiality, and confidentiality in their efforts to meet the language needs of Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals and service providers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide accurate, impartial and confidential interpretation to clients and LEPs in a variety of settings, such as medical facilities, clinics, immigration, hospitals, insurance, schools, community-based organizations, and government agencies. Services may be rendered via specialized Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) platform, telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means.
Adhere to standards regarding protection of client data and information, in accordance with industry regulatory standards, service providers’ policies and protocols.
Participate in training, assessments, and professional development opportunities offered by Language Pulse Translation including specialized interpretation certifications as needed.
Answer calls in a professional manner, acting according to the Interpreter's code of conduct.
Be aware of the specific vocabulary of the industry the interpreter works with (healthcare and medical one, specifically).-You will be trained for that.
Rendering all messages accurately and completely, without adding, omitting, or substituting.
Facilitate communication between Limited English Proficient (LEP) and Client by rendering accurate and complete interpretation of the message. Applying standards of practice.
Consistently track and report assignments and hours worked within designated software systems or platform
Job Requirements
Education and Certifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, bachelor or master’s degree holders are strongly preferred.
Interpretation certification preferred.
Work Experience:
One year relevant experience preferred.
Experience working with refugees and patients preferred.
Demonstrated Skills & Competencies:
Fluency in both written and spoken English and Dari & Pashto or either. Applicants will be tested for language proficiency prior to hiring.
Culturally sensitive; ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners.
Good knowledge of medical terminology is a plus, but not mandatory.
Awareness in legal terminology is a plus.
International certifications in the healthcare industry are a plus (PICSI, ALTA, HIPAA, etc.)
Must be a team player, detail oriented, patient, professional, and reliable.
Available for assignments during regular business hours. Evening, late night and/or weekend availability a plus.
Commitment to respecting and safeguarding client confidentiality and complying with standards for professional conduct in interpretation.
