Job Summary

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The District Teacher Educator, Education (DTEE) is a member of the Aga Khan Foundation-Afghanistan (AKF (Afg)) Education team, working under the direct supervision of the Area Senior Officer, Education (ASOE)/ Area Officer, Education (AOE). DTEE will work to improve the quality of education programs in their coverage district through close cooperation with local education stakeholders including the Provincial and District Education Directorate (PED/DED), School Management Teams (SMT), School Management Shuras (SMS), Community Development Councils (CDCs), community members and other AKF (Afg) staff. He /She will conduct Out of School Children (OOSCs) surveys, mobilize communities, establish CBE/ALP classes, provide kits and resources and address education challenges through innovative community led solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct Out of School Children (OOSCs) surveys and identify and report number of OOSCs children, especially marginalized children.

• Carry out community mobilization and sensitization campaigns and meetings to establish CBE/ALP classes in close coordination with relevant stakeholders and hire CBE/ALP teachers to teach the class(s) using a transparent professional method.

• In collaboration with ASOE/AOEs, equip CBE/ALP classes with required kits and resources.

• Enroll OOSCs, including marginalized children, into the CBE/ALP and register them with nearby government schools.

• Conduct capacity building training and workshops to CBE/ALP teachers using AKF(Afg)’s existing training packages.

• Create a collaborative learning environment among CBE teachers through cost-effective platforms of Teacher Learning Circles (TLCs).

• In consultation with the ASOE/AOEs, prepare mentoring and activity plans (monthly, quarterly, and yearly) and mentor CBE/ALP teachers on the given training topics, their roles, and responsibilities, conducting catch-up classes, and supporting peer groups.

• Train and mentor CBE/ALP Shura members to support educational intervention in their communities.

• In close collaboration with ASOE/AOEs, conduct awareness campaigns with Shuras to engage religious leaders (include topics in Friday sermons) and community leaders, Community Development Councils (CDC), and parents/caregivers on gender / child rights, and the importance of education, health, and hygiene practices. 

• Conduct social audits with local leaders, teachers, Shuras, students, and parents to strengthen social accountability at the beginning and end of each academic year.

• In close collaboration with ASOE/AOEs and local education stakeholders, complete physical School Improvement Projects (SIPs) to create safe, girl-friendly, and child-friendly learning environment on CBE/ALP/government school.

• Organize and support listening circles for community members on listen and discuss topics impacting education, especially for girls, using existing radio messages developed under previous CBE projects.

• Distribute Flexible Response Funds (FRF) led by communities to remove barriers to children, especially disabled/marginalized children, accessing education after completing CBE/ALP. 

• Regularly review and reflect upon the quality and impact of the program and prepare future plans to ensure timely project implementation as per the Yearly Plan of Operation (YPO).

• Identify and report good practices, success stories and lessons learned in the coverage district.

• Work closely with AKF (Afg) Knowledge Management department to collect required school level data.

• Provide monthly reports to ASOE /AOE.

• Represent the AKF (Afg) Education program at meetings, education events/campaigns, and other education relevant interventions at school and community level.

• Carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects AKF (Afg)’s commitment to protecting children in accordance with the AKF (Afg) Child Safeguarding Policy and advocates for the rights of children.

• Report any breaches of the Child Safeguarding Policy to the district-level child protection focal point.


OCCASIONAL SIGNIFICANT DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work closely with other AKF (Afg) sectors in the district to develop better synergy of work.

• Be able to travel to other provinces for training and exposure visits.

• Perform any other job-related duty assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

JOB SPECIFICATION

• Minimum university degree (Bachelor’s) in Education, Management, Sociology, Psychology, or other Humanities fields.

• Minimum 1 year work experience as social mobilizer, trainer, or teacher.

• Minimum 1 year work experience conducting campaigns, training, and workshops.

• Strong communication skills with different education stakeholders including PED/DED Academic Supervisors, Social Mobilizers, School Management Shura and community members. 

• Outstanding planning skills to ensure the timely implementation of project plans.

• Excellent understanding of issues facing improving education at school level.
