FHI 360 - USWDP Project, Multi Location
FHI 360’s TechLab, has created websites using the Drupal 7 content management system for the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) and eleven public universities as part of the USWDP project. USWDP seeks an experienced IT professional to design and deliver training in collaboration with TechLab and train IT staff at the Ministry and eleven public universities on the administration of Drupal websites.
At the end of the training the trainees will be able to fully administer Drupal websites and related server operations. This includes: administering user accounts, updating Drupal and third-party modules as new versions become available, and providing technical assistance to content administrators who provide new content for the respective sites. In addition, the admin trainees should gain solid knowledge of Drupal’s infrastructure and understand how to make major changes to the sites’ structure, views, menus, blocks, taxonomies, themes, and translations. In sum, site administrators should be able to fully take over their respective sites and administer them with minimum support from the USWDP project.
The training for site administrators is expected to start in December, 2016 or January, 2017 and run for up to 4 months depending on how quickly training can be arranged for people outside of Kabul.
Depending on the Specialist/Trainer’s skills and experience, he/she may first travel to Washington, DC to consult with the TechLab web team and learn about the Drupal environments TechLab has set up.
Upon return to Afghanistan, the Specialist/Trainer will train designated admin staff at the MoHE and universities in Kabul on the administration of their websites. After this round, the Specialist/Trainer will either travel to major Afghan cities to train university staff in those locations or provide training in Kabul for university personnel who would travel there.
After training, the Specialist/Trainer may be hired to provide occasional technical assistance to Drupal admin personnel at the MoHE and the various universities.
1. Training materials prepared
a. Prepare all the necessary training materials, including agenda, notes, videos, etc
2. Content Management training conducted
a. Conduct content management training for MoHE and public universities
b. Fully train the content managers on uploading and migrating of the content
3. Administration training conducted
a. Conduct website administration training for MoHE and public universities website managers
b. Train the trainees to administer user accounts, update Drupal and third-party modules as new versions become available
c. Train the admin trainees to gain solid knowledge of Drupal’s infrastructure and understand how to make major changes to the sites’ structure, views, menus, blocks, taxonomies, and translations
d. The trainees should fully take over their respective sites and should be able to administer them with minimum support
4. Identify content to be migrated
a. Assist with the content managers to identify the content for migration
5. Technical assistance provided
a. Assist with the content managers in migrating the content from existing websites to the newly developed websites
The Specialist/Trainer should have the following skills and expertise:
Bachelor’s degree with at least seven years of relevant experience or Master’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience
Experience as a Trainer or teacher of Drupal will be preferred
Good experience in administrating Drupal 7 websites including:
o Solid understanding of LAMP environment
o Working knowledge of Linux command line
o Experience of setting up and configuring Drupal core and contributed modules such as Views, Display Suite, Internationalization etc.
o Experience modifying and configuring Drupal 7 themes
o Experience updating Drupal core, contributed modules, and themes
o Experience implementing backup/restore solutions for Drupal websites, including files and databases
Solid knowledge of HTML5 and CSS
Solid understanding of Drupal theming
Basic knowledge of PHP, SQL, and JavaScript
Understanding of information security principles and best practices
Working knowledge of English, Dari, and Pashto
Excellent communication and problem solving skills
