Job Summary
The DWDM Planning Specialist will be responsible for DWDM, OTN and Ethernet assessments/audits along with-it responsible for troubleshooting and implementation of ACG Optical Network. The DWDM Planning Specialist will assist in the creation of proposal, scope, level of effort estimation and implementation plans. Participates in project execution and technical delivery. DWDM Planning Specialist will be working on the design and architecture of the company’s core network infrastructure to support our expanding backbone fiber network in addition incumbent will also work on layer 1 through layer 3 network design, capacity planning and platform management as well as the design of routes for fiber-based networks including point to point, ring, and path diverse routing. Primary responsibilities include the engineering upgrade, technical oversight, and support for our optical and electrical transport networks including the Fiber, DWDM, Microwave and IP network.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Understand the SOW of contract and customer requirement, output or be involved to output WDM project delivery plan and technical solution, control and monitor project implementation
- Understand and output WDM engineering technical design scheme to guide subcontractor design
- Responsible for WDM project acceptance
- Reviewing WDM engineering design documents, output material and service BoQ to support issue the PR/PO
- Distinguishing communications skills, working effectively in both technicians and management
- Candidate must be a self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision
- Collaborate with team of engineers
- Network planning and design including network protection schemes, network synchronization, and bandwidth availability and utilization
- Circuit design as per customer specifications including circuit protection, transport network selection and interworking across networks
- Capacity planning and management of available and utilized bandwidth on the DWDM and IP Network
- Research of DWDM network elements and features
- Optical link loss-budget analysis and management for DWDM networks
- Provide technical support for circuit interconnection
- Provide technical support for provisioning, installation, outside plant, sales and marketing department
- Good network documentation skills, including, but not limited to the development and evolving of network drawings, rack layouts, cut sheets and various technical deliverable
- Ability to identify issues and assist in providing feedback for best practices implementation
- Good understanding and interpretation telecom principles and technologies
- Knowledge of Transport/Packet/TDM networks
- Participates on projects and application roll-outs
- Assists in developing and adhering to all engineering/quality processes and procedures
- Work together with project management on technical issues
- Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts
Job Requirements
- Bachelor in Telecommunication/Electrical or Computer science in addition Academic or Industry Certifications in Transmission and or related fields (DWDM expertise preferred).
- Certifications (+ and preferred) if: FOA, BICSI, Huawei and Tejas certified
- Knowledge of optical DWDM principles, guides and standards
- Knowledge of common network practices such as preventative service provisioning, maintenance, upgrades, notification, escalation, and troubleshooting
- Required knowledge and experience with 100G DWDM network
- Hands-on working experience with troubleshooting ROADM-based Long-Haul optical transport systems and provisioning new DWDM services
- Hands-on working knowledge of Network Management Systems (NMS)
- Familiarity with Huawei, Tejas and Cisco transport equipment
- Good understanding of fiber optic technology, outside fiber plant, fiber testing technology and OTDR test results interpretations
- Good knowledge of SONET, OTN transport protocols, 10GE and 100G Ethernet and WAN Technologies
- Comfortable working with third-party fiber providers, field engineers, NOC engineers, OSP specialists to resolve fiber-related issues
- Specific product knowledge and hands-on configuration experience on various SONET/OTN/DWDM/IP-MPLS/GE standards and vendors (i.e. Huawei, TEJAS and Cisco)
- Competent writings skills in rendering and modifying professional processes and procedures
- Ability to scope engineering deliverable content
- Good industry knowledge and technology trends
- Self-motivated and innovative
