Social Development and Research Organization for Afghans (SDROA) is a non-governmental organization. We are implementing educational programs in various provinces of Afghanistan that enhances the capacity of the youth to step up as leaders in the future. The various educational, capacity building, and awareness programs will provide opportunities for those who are seeking to unlock their potentials and move forward to contribute in the nation building.
The incumbent reports to SDROA Director, Deputy Director and EducaitonUSA Manager. S/He provides accurate, comprehensive and impartial advice on educational opportunities in the United States. S/He guides students as they research appropriate programs, prepare for standardized tests such as TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, and GRE, identify possible financial aid, and prepare for students for student visa interview and departure to the United States.
The Adviser must ensure that services offered at the advising center are appropriately in-depth and comprehensive, and is responsible for one-on-one counseling of students and group advising sessions. S/He should develop and implement educational advising programs and special events that reach out to cities across Western ern Afghanistan. S/he is required to make presentations on U.S. higher education-related topics, develop weekly, monthly and quarterly reports, and oversee the maintenance of the library. The Adviser also serves as a liaison with representatives of the U.S. and Afghanistan higher education institutions and high schools.
In addition, the incumbent will promote other U.S. Government-sponsored educational and exchange programs such as the Fulbright, Study of the United States Institute (SUSI), U.S. Embassy-Kabul scholarship programs such as the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) and American University of Afghanistan (AUAF). S/he will be working closely with the Lincoln Learning Centers (LLC). The position is full time (40 hours per week). Travel to nearby provinces is required.
1. Advising: Advise students, scholars and professionals seeking to study in the U.S. about all aspects of the U.S. college/university admission process, including information on U.S. admissions tests, financial aid, student visas and arrival in the U.S. This will be through in-depth one-on-one advising, group advising sessions and webinars.
11. Liaise: Provide accurate information about the EdUSA center in Herat to the Regional Education Advising Coordinator (REAC) and EducationUSA SCA Program Officer.
· Education: Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Education, Political Science or Social Science or relevant discipline. discipline; advanced degrees/ degree from a U.S. university will be an added advantage.
· Experience: Minimum five years of relevant work experience. Work experience in the education sector, teaching and/or advising students on college admissions will be an added advantage.
· Knowledge: Higher education systems of U.S. and Afghanistan and opportunities for international students in the U.S.
· Skills: High level communication skills; Excellent public speaking skills; Advising skills; Customer focus; Self-driven with strong networking and liaising skills; Ability to engage with students; Commitment to cross-cultural exchange; Experience in organizing conferences or similar events; Proven ability to work in a team environment; Familiarity with US Standardized Tests; Strategic planning skills; Strategic Planning Skills; Understanding of academic and business ethics. team work, multitasking, Creativity and problem solving skills are assets. Fluency in MS Office – Outlook, word, excel, power-point and other presentation tools; database management; adept in Internet based tools and use of social media.
· Language Skills: Fluency in oral and written English, Dari and Pashtu.
