Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:


Researching, planning, writing and editing web content in the English language;

Translating material from Dari and/or Pashto into the English language before posting on SAMO website;

Liaising with sources, including coworkers in the newsroom, to decide on new posts;

Ensuring content consistency and accuracy before posting, and keeping strictly up-to-date;

Ensuring copyright and privacy laws are in place before posting;

Overseeing layout (images, graphics, artwork, videos) sharing ideas and/or concerns before posting;

Training new staff on producing and editing content for online;

Any other related tasks/assignments requested of the incumbent by supervisor and management;

Job Requirements

General Requirements:

Demonstrated work-experience, 3 years minimum, working as an online editor in the English language;

Demonstrated editing skills (with sample published work)

Good knowledge of the media landscape in Afghanistan and worldwide, especially in the English language;

Excellent writing and analytical skills, especially journalistic writing, in the English language;

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences – preferably journalism, mass communication, public policy, etc. - (or equivalent number of years of professional experience in related fields);
Other requirements:

Ability to undertake research using a variety of sources;

Ability to adjust writing styles based on target audience;

Ability to multitask, setting priorities and managing time efficiently;

Knowledge and ability to work with various computer software (typing speed 45-55 WMP);

Ability to simplify and explain complex issues and procedures;

Ability to work and deliver on tasks alone or as a part of a team;

Ability to meet prioritize, analyze, work and ensure tight deadlines;
