Job Summary

This is a new position for the launch of the print edition of the Afghan Zariza (Millennium) magazine English language website. The candidate should be ambitious, self-starter, and interested in developing this very needed and crucial web news site for the nearly three million Afghan diaspora living throughout Europe, Australia, North America, UAE, as well as for the international community.

Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate shallpossess on line journalism knowledge and thorough understanding of the principles of writing for a news website as well as print magazine. The candidate must be able to write creative headlinesand with a keen eye for the Afghan Millennium readers. The candidate must be able to work under pressure and ensure that all news and articles are uploaded to the website on time.He/she must be able to work across an array of sectors: economics, politics, law, sports and entertainment related to Afghanistan, the Afghan diaspora, and the international community interested in Afghan matters.

Job Requirements

A minimum of two years experience as a journalist and editor, with experience of writing and editing for the Web and print.

Be interested in issues related to Afghanistan and know how to maximize the audience with strong headlines, compelling stories, good use of SEO techniques, and hands-on knowledge of creating a buzz using social media.

Experience of Content Management Systems (CMS), and a solid understanding of audience driven analytics.

Experience in proof reading and editing.

Strong interest in web based news, able to develop innovative and effective methods to build the www.afghanzariza.comin to the most widely read English language news website.

Understanding of Dari and/or Pashtu (for other nationalities) is preferred, but no required.
