The School Consultant (SC) is a member of the Project Office’s (PO) education project unit. In close co-operation with the colleagues she works on improving the primary (community based schools, CBS), secondary education and teachers training in schools supported by SCA. The SC trains school teachers and headmasters in teaching methodology, subject knowledge and school management, in long courses at the teacher-training centre, but mostly in shorter courses in the schools. As a field worker she spends most of the time in the schools. She is responsible for the support, control and development of schools. The SC monitors the schools, complies information, reports and makes suggestions for improvement The SC supports community mobilisation efforts in communities as well as the community members to enhance involvement in school affairs and to advocate for education especially girl’s education. The SC reports to the Education Project Manager

• Supervises that school activities are running in accordance with SCA policy and education directives
• Supervises school administration including its links with parents and community leaders
• Supervises teachers performances and ensure that teaching is in accordance with plans and curriculum
• Supervises schools’ and ARIC libraries activity
• At least 75% of time should be in field
• Assist in design curriculum for teacher and headmaster courses
• Collect information in accordance with monitoring forms, compile the data, submit reports and proposals for improvement
• Compile reports from training courses
• Give advice to the education team regarding pedagogical material to the teacher training centre
• Survey and minor repair of SCA supported schools’ buildings
• Assist school administration in strengthening the Community Education Committees (CECs) and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs)
• Wherever feasible, promote the participation of mothers in CECs and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs)
• Assist certain key members of the community to conduct awareness campaigns for the purpose of promoting children’s especially girls’ enrolment and retention in schools
• Liaison with other community development actors e.g. CDC’s, other NGOs etc to build on existing structures and initiatives
• Graduated from relevant Faculty of Science/ social studies.
• Minimum three years experience as teacher trainer and prior to that a minimum three years as teacher
• Good communication skill (written and spoken) of Dari, Pashto, knowledge of English is an advantage.
• Strong interest in the development of education issues.
• Very good teaching skills, adult training and community mobilisation.
• Basic computer knowledge is an advantage
• Ability to travel and live at education project sites.
• Be an Afghan national
