Job Summary

Will be responsible for the terminating, splicing, installing, and testing of all fiber optic networks within the realm of RTDMS. The Fiber Optic Technicians must assures that all fiber networks are functional and mitigate any connectivity issues. The technician is mostly responsible for physical activities of installing and maintaining fiber network cables and other peripherals.

Duties & Responsibilities


Install, troubleshoot, and maintain fiber optic systems.

Responsible for installations, including racking, cabling, bonding and grounding.

Perform ring cuts on live fiber without affecting existing services.

Perform fiber tests with OTDR’s, light source and meters.

Terminate, splice, bonds/grounds and tests fiber optic equipment to division standards.

Perform installation of fiber optic equipment and patch panels.

Must be well versed in modern fiber splicing techniques.

Have the ability to work under minimal supervision. And apply technical expertise to evaluate problems and implementing the best solutions.

Work a variety of schedules if needed.

Responds to status monitoring alarms. Identifies, troubleshoots and resolves any associated issues.

Performs preventative maintenance on distribution networks by conducting amp sweeps, checking for forward and return signal transmission, measuring signal leakage, ingress, and noise, and evaluating power supply issues.

Performs node and end-of-line checks to prevent troubles.

Utilizes test equipment and other diagnostic tools such as notebook computers and digitized system maps to resolve network distribution problems.

Checks power supplies, batteries, and cabinets to ensure they are in good working order. Reports problems to authorized employees.

Perform maintenance and repair activities on OLT/ODN FTTH cabinets. This will include all passives, fiber connectors and jumpers, and temporary splicing repairs.

Read and interprets system prints including system design maps and digital drawings.

Serve as a mentor to less experienced technicians. Assists with training and presenting safety tips.

Any other related task assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements

1. School Graduate and at least 4 years of professional work experience in computer networks, electrical engineering or telecommunications. (Bachelor of Science “B.S” Degree Preferred)
2. Experience in modern Fiber splicing techniques for the telecommunication industry.
Certificate of Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT) is a plus.
Knowledge of Pashto or Dari and English languages is required.
