Job Summary

Position Title: Field Engineer
Long Term: 01 September 2012 – 31 August 2013
Location: Kandahar
Reports to: District Team Leader with technical supervision by the Senior Technical Advisor

Duties & Responsibilities

The Field Engineer will undertake a wide range of programmatic support tasks, including but not limited to those stipulated below:

Appraises proposed SIKA South small -scale infrastructure projects.

Provides technical advice, support and oversight to community projects throughout the district in close coordination with CDCs, the DDA, and DG.

Assists in the preparation of the monthly report.

Be proactive in the identification and solution of technical and procedural problems in the field.

Prepares monthly work plan inclusive of the sub-project survey, design, estimation, work plan and financial components.

Prepares/reviews the sub-project installment schedules.

Prepares/reviews the sub-project Final Status Report and expenditure sheet.

Cooperates with CDCs and DDA on engineering proposal preparations and ensures compliance with SIKA South Procurement Guidelines stated in the Operations Manual.


Perform quality control review of all construction materials before use on the sub-projects.

Monitors ongoing projects regularly to ensure that the work is carried out according to project proposals.

Regular meetings with project owners to discuss the subproject progress and problems.

Regular meeting with project owners and PRRD staff to discuss technical aspects and problems of the projects.

Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

Is familiar with and will use the MRRD engineering manual on all infrastructure projects.

Understand and enforce SIKA South’s policy of zero tolerance for fraud and corruption.

Job Requirements


Graduate of an Engineering Faculty.

Minimum 3 years post graduate construction experience.

Computer skills (Good MS Excel, Engineering programs and MS Word skills)

Must be able to work well in a team and must be sensitive to Afghan culture especially when promoting the role of women within the community and program.

Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and other design software.

Project scheduling experience, MS Project experience is preferred.

GIS experience preferred.

Experience with USAID projects.

Familiarity with MRRD engineering manual.

Fluent in Pashtu and English.

Residents of Kandahar, Helmand, Zabul or Uruzgan provinces strongly preferred.

MS Excel, Engineering programs and MS Word, AutoCAD and other design software. GIS experience preferred
