Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative in Afghanistan, the direct technical supervision of the Chief Technical Advisor (GCP/AFG/069/GER and GCP/AFG/075/GER), in close collaboration with the project staff under the framework of nutrition related projects and in collaboration with national authorities, particularly MAIL (Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock)/ Government, the Food For Life/ Food Security Coordination Officer will carry out the following duties:

Project: GCP/AFG/069/GER (Strengthening the Role of Women in Agriculture and Household Food Security in Afghanistan) and GCP/AFG/075/GER (Strengthening Policy Development and Coordination for Food and Nutrition Security in Afghanistan- Implementation Support for the “Food for Life” National Priority)

Provide technical support to MAIL in implementing Food For Life (FFL) in their national food security and agricultural policies and investment plans;
Support agriculture sector engagement in national coordination mechanisms on FFL of NPP2 (National Priority Program), linking with other project activities/ interventions;
Review ongoing initiatives and capacities and identify key knowledge and skills required to strengthen approaches of the FFL in the MAIL;
Assist to establish and coordination support at FFL secretariat at national and provincial level, assist to develop action plans for the FFL unit;
Assist capacity building team on food security related trainings by development of relevant training materials for the FFL/PPD team;
Ensure that food security and nutrition activities have been adequately coordinated in agriculture, poverty alleviation, food security, livelihoods and etc.
Pro-actively attend in the food security and nutrition related inter-sectoral coordination meeting, task force, clusters etc
Plan and organize workshops, meeting etc with relevant stakeholders to support the MAIL to implement the FFL related projects;
Assist to the preparation of new project proposals for mobilization of additional resources.
Expected Outputs:
Operational guideline on food security and agriculture policies and strategies developed
Smooth coordination among the various stakeholders of food security is facilitated in order to implement FFL approaches of NPP2;
Database of all ongoing FFL programmes, interventions and activities (Who, Where and What) have been produced
Summary reports of FFL and food security related inter-sectoral coordination meetings, task forces and clusters regularly prepared
FFL an food security related papers, awareness raising for policy makers is prepared and made available;
Bachelor degree (preferably advance degree) with specialization in food security/ agriculture or closely related field with at least five years experience in food security project coordination and management;
Ability to work within a team of professional staff from diverse technical and cultural backgrounds and expertise.
Good communication, writing and presentation skills (English and Dari)
