About BBC Media Action

Job Summary

BBC Media Action is looking to engage with a number of talented actors and actresses who are fluent Pashto speakers. The successful applicants will participate in a new BBC Media Action weekly radio program which is anticipated to start broadcasting in April 2016. The program will focus on family well-being and child health and vaccination topics. The actors and actresses will be expected to act in both short and long format radio drama segments and to bring high degrees of creativity to the character roles they are assigned within the dramas.

Duties & Responsibilities

 Study and rehearse Pashto language radio drama scripts in order to interpret, learn and deliver lines.
 Gain a detailed understanding of the characters in the scripts and their relationships to each other in order to develop role interpretations.
 Bring creativity and individuality to the role assigned in the radio drama.
 Collaborate with other actors to bring the drama “to life’ for radio audiences.
 Attend drama recordings and work collaboratively with the producer and drama writer during these recordings.
 Participate in reviews of drama programs and take feedback into account in order to further develop characters and story lines.
 Contribute creative ideas to the dramas and character portrayal so that the drama remains exciting and relevant to radio audiences.

 Native language Pashto speaker. Fluency in spoken and written Pashto.
 Demonstrable experience of previous acting experience, preferably in a Pashto radio drama or Pashto theater drama.
 Interpreting and analyzing a drama role and effectively portraying the role to audiences.
 Acting in a variety of different formats including popular drama and comedy.
 Musical and singing skills.
 Experience as a member of a drama team and successfully undertaking script learning, rehearsal and recording responsibilities and duties.
 Taking direction and feedback in the performance of a given drama role and developing the role in response to feedback.
 Clear and effective communication skills.
 Working in a drama environment where tight deadlines need to be adhered to.
