About UNESCO Kabul

Job Summary

The United Nations Educational, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) hereby invites qualified
female architecture and engineering students in Afghanistan to submit their candidacy for a 3-month long,
onsite internship training at the construction site of the Bamiyan Cultural Centre.
Based on the agreement with the donor of the Bamiyan Cultural Centre project, the internship will be
carried out under the responsibility of Khaliq Kabir Construction Company, the contractor of the
construction project, organized by UNESCO, and funded by the Government of Korea. The internship is
offered only to Afghan women.
There will be two training periods, one between April to June 2018, the other between August to October
2018. Applicants must choose and mention in their application one of the two sessions. The selected
interns cannot attend both.
Interested Afghan female applicants are invited to an internship program that will blend theoretical
training on architecture and construction management, with practical, hands-on exercises relating to tasks
the development of a real-life project: project design and engineering, worksite organization, works
supervision, quality control, safety, surveying and technical report writing.
Periodically trainees will be given written assignments that will be evaluated and discussed with the
project’s technical staff.

UNESCO will select up to 6 interns for each session of the internship.
Interns will receive a stipend of $200 per month.

Job Requirements

Female trainees must meet the following requirements:
1. Be at least in possession of a technical degree equivalent to class 14 of a technical school
graduate. A Bachelor’s degree in architecture or civil engineering is preferred;
2. Possess good written and spoken Dari. A good written and spoken English is preferred;
3. Ability to understand and interpreted construction drawings;
4. Reside in Bamiyan for the length of the internship program (Trainees will be requested to work 5
days a week during the length of the program);
5. Follow instructions given by the UNESCO technical team in Bamiyan
