NATO Afghanistan - Resolute Support , Multi Location
The KAIA Linguistic Service is responsible for enabling ISAF Joint Command (IJC) and Kabul Military Airport (KAIA) to communicate in the local languages with authorities and populations in its area of operations. He/She provides translation and interpretation services in Afghanistan’s official languages, provides vital interpretation and translation duties in support of Commander KAIA's engagement with local GIRoA leaders and facilitates written communications addressing planning and crisis issues.
Under the supervision of Linguistic Service Team Leader, translates all types of text from English to Dari and/or Pashto and vice versa.
Interprets in liaison and consecutive mode from English to Dari and/or Pashto and vice versa.
If qualified, translates from other language(s) to Dari and/or Pashto or to English.
Keeps abreast of issues related to NATO and ISAF policies.
Maintains knowledge of specific and technical fields and the related terminology.
Assists in the compilation of relevant glossaries.
Perform other duties as required.
Accompanies members of IJC & KAIA to official functions and acts as an enabler to allow members of IJC & KAIA to meet local dignitaries. Participates in training organised through the HQ ISAF Chief Linguistic Service.
There is a requirement for occasional work under pressure, dealing with high workloads and irregular working hours.
Willingness to undergo training at the Linguistic Services in specific tasks, to include familiarization with specific terminology.
He /she must be able to perform occasional travel on temporary duty all over Afghanistan.
As an interpreter, at all levels, including the highest as well as at public events.
For other functions with linguistic colleagues and other ISAF elements.
The post holder must be fully aware of the ISAF mission in Afghanistan and be able to contribute whenever possible to helping ISAF to achieve its mission of peace and security for the people of Afghanistan through the work of the Linguistic Service.
Ability to interpret and translate at the required level of quality.
Sound and up-to-date knowledge of political, cultural, scientific and technical matters, especially related to Afghanistan.
Knowledge of other NATO languages.
Formal language training certificates.
Formal qualifications or work experience demonstrating linguistic ability.
