Job Summary

The incumbent is required to operate as an investigator who will support DEA Special Agents assigned to the DEA Kabul Country office (KCO). KCO Special Agents (SA) and the incumbent will be located in forward operating bases outside of the embassy and will operate in a paramilitary fashion alongside specially trained members of the Afghanistan National Interdiction Unit (NIU), and Sensitive Investigative Unit (SIU) of the Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA). The incumbent will require to work alongside members of the KCO, NIU and SIU while conducting drug enforcement operations throughout Afghanistan. This position requires the incumbent to deal with some of the most difficult, dangerous and complex issues facing counter narcotics operations in Afghanistan. Also the mix between English speaking DEA Agents and the Afghan Culture will require constant guidance from the FSN.

Job Requirements

VA 14-135 Full Performance Level:
Education: Completion of secondary (High) school is required.
Experience: Three years prior investigative experience with U.S or Afghan Law Enforcement, Military or Security agencies is required.

VA 14-135T Trainee Level:
Education: Completion of secondary (High) school is required.
Experience: Two years prior investigative experience with U.S or Afghan Law Enforcement, Military or Security agencies is required.

Language: Level IV (fluent) speaking/reading in English, Dari and Pashtu is required.
Knowledge: A working knowledge of the Afghan criminal justice systems and familiarity with local laws pertaining to narcotics is required. Must have knowledge of undercover, surveillance and investigative techniques as well as the country of Afghanistan and surrounding regions.
Ability to maintain extensive contacts with members of the American and Afghan Government and to exercise initiative and resourcefulness in obtaining information and evidence is required. Must be able to conduct investigations and provide guidance to U.S. and Afghan personnel, draft reports in precise English language and have standard typing and computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint. Ability to safely operate motor vehicles is required. Applicants must be in excellent physical condition to endure enforcement operations in rough terrain and in hostile areas.
