Job Summary

Direct invigilation administration of school, IELTS, professional, Aptis, University and other examinations according to exam board requirements as well as our Quality and Compliance Assessment standards (QCA) in Cameroon;

-      Provide support to the administration and implementation of other examinations

-      Information provision and excellent customer service

-      Administrative work for the office if reuired

The service provider should be able to deal with more complex information/enquiries, have excellent customer care, interpersonal skills, team working spirit and able to meet deadlines to a schedule. He or she should also be computer literate. The service provider will be part of a wider pool of test day personnel, contracted to support the delivery of a variety of tests on behalf of the British Council across various locations in the country. The service provider will be required to work very closely with a team of other test day personnel and test day service providers.


The service provider will be working with the British Council, invigilating exams based on need. This might be minimum 10 hours and maximum of 50 hours per month. The selected invigilators will be paid based on actual number of hours worked and the range of payment is between $8-12 per hour.


Duties & Responsibilities

·        Be familiar with and follow all relevant standards & procedures, based on training and reference materials provided by the British Council and the relevant exams boards.

·        Ensure that all test day invigilation standards and procedures are met.

·        Ensure the security and confidentiality of all test day materials at all times.

·        Escalate any exceptions, emergencies or breaches of security to the appropriate British Council staff. Liaise with any other relevant authorities in case of emergencies.

·        Actively contribute to the improvement of test day delivery and customer experience by making suggestions to British Council staff.

·        Report promptly to test venue at agreed time. In case of emergency, inform the appropriate test day or British Council staff us in a timely manner.

·        Complete and maintain accurate records of exam assignments. Complete all reports, logs and claims accurately and in real time.

·        Actively contribute to the improvement of test day delivery and customer experience by making suggestions to British Council staff.

·        Ensure that guidelines and policies are applied and followed in the areas of: Data Protection, Child Protection, Health & Safety, Equal Opportunities and Diversity, and Anti-Fraud.

·        Promote and ensure the wellbeing of candidates at all time. In case of emergencies, follow procedures to ensure the wellbeing of candidates.

Ensure that candidates have a positive and consistent test day experience and a positive image of the British Council. 

Job Requirements

1.    To carry out registration of candidates and invigilate examination sessions professionally

·        Be available at the assigned date and time to invigilate for the exam and always be punctual.

·        Ensure the exam venue is clean and tidy.

·        Conduct candidate entry, exit, identity checks and Test Day Photography procedures according to exam requirements.

·        Enable good customer flow by directing candidates on the pre-exam customer journey.

·        Adhere to all instructions issued by the supervisor/examination board.

·        Candidate Admission Letters and valid IDs (passport, National ID) and statement of entry (if applicable)are checked at the Registration Desk, before entering the hall and again if a candidate leaves the hall to go to the washroom.

·        Check each candidate’s ID and before and during the exam. If a candidate fails to present an ID:

- summon the Supervisor

- record this in the Incident report

- ask him/her to ask somebody else (parents, siblings, friends) to bring the ID to the exam venue

- if the candidate succeeds in doing so admit him/her to the test

·        Ensure that all candidates follow exams procedures by leaving their personal belongings in the designated areas and switching off their mobile phones.

·        Ensure only permitted materials are on each candidate’s desk (e.g. pen, pencil, eraser, test paper, ID)

·        Issue correct exam stationary promptly and efficiently.

·        Invigilation and ushering is conducted professionally for designated examination sessions

·        Invigilation of examinations is conducted so as to ensure that the needs of candidates with special requirements are met, in line with Equal Opportunities and Diversity and examination standards

·        Monitor candidates unobtrusively and ensure that candidates do not communicate with each other.

No candidate is allowed outside the exam hall (after the exam), until all the question papers and answer ·  sheets are counted and confirmed to the Supervisor

·             Return all papers, sorted according to instructions, to the supervisor (if one is present).

·             Be familiar with the emergency procedures for the test day venue.

·            Be smartly and appropriately dressed with no noisy jewellery or heels.

·            Be punctual.

·            Prepare seating plans and attendance sheets for the examination room for each paper of the examination
