The Irrigation Engineer will be under the day to day supervision of the Project Director, and will report to the Project Director.
Specific Duties
1. As Design/Irrigation Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for reviewing overall designs of main canal, secondary, and tertiary water courses.
2. He/she will be responsible for the coordination of all technical activities in the office and also on the site to make sure the construction/rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure is according to the engineering standards and local conditions.
3. Work independently, and direct through subordinate engineers the construction of canals, water courses according to the type of soil, and provinces’ specific climate affecting irrigation requirements.
4. Prepare/check final designs, and calculations.
5. Conduct research on problems of soil drainage, and water logging.
6. Observe construction procedures.
7. Prepare guidelines for all technical staff activities both in the office and on the site.
8. Assist in record keeping and generating progress reports.
9. Help in preparation of tender documents, and contracts.
10. Investigate proposed locations of structures (flow control gates, turnout, flow measurement weirs, etc.) and prepare initial designs in coordination with technical team.
11. Assist the Consultants as directed by the Project Director.
12. Other duties as assigned by the Project Director.
Qualifications required:
The candidate must have a Degree (preferably Master ) in Water Resources Engineering /Agricultural Engineering /Civil engineering with focus on design and construction/rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure (design of canal, water control gates, flow measurement structure, siphons, culverts, construction of flood control levees etc). Preference would be given to the candidates having extensive experience in similar regions. Major achievements in career may substitute for long experience and educational requirements.
Skills Required:
• Computer simulation/use of computer models is helpful.
• Good CAD, Eagle Point skills
• Must be efficient in completion of the assigned tasks on time on the office/sites.
• Reasonable capability to read write and speak English, organization skills, desire to learn, and basic computer literacy.
