The IT Assistant is under the supervision of the IT Specialist, responsible for providing a wide range of networking and computer-support services to the SWSS staff, involving the effective utilization, maintenance, updating, and enhancement of a wide range of systems. The incumbent is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and updating staff workstations, as well as diagnosing and resolving network and server connectivity issues, monitoring the implementation of IT-related matters.
1.Troubleshoot a wide range of problems in consultation with the IT Specialist and SWSS administrative, programmatic, and technical staff;
2.Deploy, test, install, and configure workstations using Ghost images, and design, test, and create new customized Ghost images,
3.Update, maintain, and troubleshoot whatever issues SWSS staff have with their workstations, office printers and other shared systems, office networks and internet connections, Windows file/print/DNS/etc server, Cisco routers, WAPs, and switches, and the company email server;
4.Design, test, and update changes to group policy configuration;
5.Automate a wide range of tasks using batch files, shell scripts, macros, etc;
6.Maintain a consistent accounting of software license usage, request new license purchases when appropriate, and follow up on all licensing-related issues;
7.Maintain regular backups of office data, and periodically test the restoration of them;
8.Monitor and report on the implementation of various network construction, internet-service provision, and end-user support contracts;
9.Create floor plans, physical and logical network diagrams, bills of quantities, scheduling projections, inventory reports, site survey reports, and other documents as required;
10.Obtain and compare price quotes, investigate market capacity, and research locally-available and locally-supportable solutions to a wide range of IT problems,
11.Provide technical assistance to project staff and counterparts including the preparation and effective use of presentation technologies, establishing, maintaining, and monitoring effective filing systems, establishing appropriate file sharing procedures, etc;
12.Prepare periodic progress reports and submit them to the IT Specialist;
13.Carry out other duties as may be assigned by the IT Specialist.
EDUCATION:A two-year degree in an IT-related field of study, and/or sufficiently extensive work experience and certification coverage to compare with such.
WORK EXPERIENCE:3-5 years work experience in a relevant field, preferably with an international organization.
SKILLS: A proven ability to write clearly and concisely and verbally communication both in English and local languages. High proficiency in computer skills, particularly with systems such as Windows Server 2003, Linux, AVG Anti-Malware Toolkit, Cisco IOS, and Symmantec Ghost, as well as Windows XP and Office 2003/2007. Programming experience is desired.
LANGUAGES:Fluent knowledge of spoken and written English, Dari and Pashto.
GENERAL:Excellent analytical and organizational skills. Good human relation skills, integrity and ability to work with minimum supervision and under pressure. Willingness to regularly make regional office and project site visits. Strong diplomatic and interpersonal skills are desired. Knowledge of USAID procedures is desired.
GENERAL:Willing to work long hours and under pressure. Regular attendance is essential.
