Job Summary

Project Background and Objective of the assignment:

UNDP Afghanistan, through the Enhancing Gender Equality and Mainstreaming in Afghanistan (EGEMA) project, is implementing the We- engage initiative, an EU-funded effort to support the professional development of Afghan female graduates from Central Asian universities. The program provides National and International UN Volunteer (NUNV/IUNV) assignments to enhance employability, economic participation, and long-term career resilience in Afghanistan and Central Asia.

Given that current UNV assignments are limited to one year, the initiative prioritizes building essential skills to support Afghan female UN Volunteers in navigating future career opportunities beyond their temporary assignments.

As part of the EGEMA Annual Work Plan 2025, the need for Leadership, Management, and Strategic Thinking training was identified during a direct meeting between the Project Manager and 21 Afghan women graduates from Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. These graduates, newly engaged as UN Volunteers, expressed a strong interest in building foundational leadership competencies to better navigate their upcoming assignments.

In response, UNDP Afghanistan, under EGEMA Project and we- engage initiative, will engage a Foundational Leadership Trainer to equip these fresh UN Volunteers with essential skills in self-awareness, self-leadership, and strategic alignment with the goals of their host agencies and the broader UN system.

The training will enable participants to apply leadership strategies to effectively support their peers, navigate organizational challenges, and contribute meaningfully to their agencies' objectives and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This three-day workshop is a vital to promote professional growth, motivation, and empowerment the UN Volunteers. It aims to equip participants with the skills and confidence to act as proactive change agents throughout their assignments and in future professional engagements.


Duties & Responsibilities

Scope of work: 

• Develop a comprehensive training plan tailored to the needs of National and International UN Volunteers, ensuring alignment with the workshop's objectives.

• Create and accurate training materials, including handouts, presentations, and digital content, that are current and relevant to participants' needs. 

• Facilitate interactive sessions on personal leadership development, focusing on enhancing self-awareness and fostering growth.

• Empower participants through coaching techniques, equipping them with practical tools to support and inspire others effectively.

• Lead online sessions on navigating change, aligning individual roles with organizational goals, and translating strategic thinking into actionable plans.

• Deliver engaging training sessions using a mix of methodologies, including workshops, simulations, and virtual group discussions, to promote active learning and participation.

• Conduct the pre-test and post- teset to assess capacity of the participants, before the training start up.

• Support materials to reinforce learning.

• Provide a summary report outlining participant feedback, training outcomes, and recommendations for further development.


Institutional arrangement: The Trainer will report directly to the EGEMA Project Manager and will coordinate and follow up with the UNV Programme Support Officer for all aspects related to training logistics, participant engagement, and performance monitoring.

All training materials must comply with UNDP’s Gender and Social Dimensions Monitoring Framework and align with the project’s guiding principles of Do No Harm (DNH) and Leave No One Behind (LNOB), ensuring inclusive, gender-sensitive, and context-appropriate delivery throughout the assignment.

Payment: Daily bases

Duration of the assignment: 27th, 28th and 29th of May 2025

Modality: Virtual (Remote delivery via Zoom or Teams platforms)

Frequency: Three days one time.

Daily Sessions: From 8:30 AM to 4:00 P


Job Requirements

Experience and Skills: 

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in leadership development, training, or organizational development, with a strong background in designing and delivering impactful training programs for diverse audiences.

• Strong understanding of leadership principles, management theories, and strategic thinking frameworks, with the ability to apply these concepts in diverse organizational contexts.

• Demonstrated experience in conducting engaging training sessions and workshops, utilizing various instructional methods to cater to different learning styles.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities, with the capacity to convey complex ideas clearly and inspire participants at all levels of the organization.

• Previous experience in leadership training and capacity building training development is an advantage. 

Competencies: 

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Proficiency in using online platforms to deliver interactive sessions, including the ability to create virtual breakout rooms for group work.

• Deep knowledge of leadership, management principles, and strategic frameworks, with the capability to apply theoretical concepts in practical contexts.

• Expertise in creating an energetic and supportive learning environment that encourages active participation and enthusiasm for learning.

• Flexibility to adjust training methods and materials based on participant feedback and evolving organizational needs.

Language Requirements:

Proficiency in written and spoken English and fluency in local languages, Pashto and Dari is required.
