Job Summary

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a private non-governmental, humanitarian organisation specialised in assisting refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).

• The legal trainer will be based in Mazar office of the NRC Information, Counselling and Legal Aid Project and will work according to the objectives and goals stated in the project description and in line with NRC policies and NRC’s current Plan of Action and Strategy for the region.
• The legal trainer will provide training to assist in the implementation of the above project.

Duties & Responsibilities

4. Research, develop and implement training modules/seminars on property law, family law and inheritance rights, including the development of impact assessment materials
5. Assist in the delivery, coordination and management of the project, including provision of training and field activities;
6. Liaise, collaborate and consult with all project partners and beneficiaries, arrange and attend meetings and produce relevant reports/minutes;
7. Systematically collect relevant data and maintain administrative records related to the training.
8. Assist in preparation of project reports.
9. Work with the Legal Training Coordinator to improve and strengthen the Legal Training Team.
10. Any other reasonable tasks as instructed by immediate superior.

Job Requirements

• University degree in Law or other relevant fields related to expertise in formal and traditional justice system; knowledge of relevant International and national legal instruments and legislation;
• Excellent communication skills and experience in public speaking, teaching, or training, with ability to conduct workshops or seminars in assigned focus areas;
• Experience in report writing, public speaking, community visits and coordinating and communicating with NGOs, GoA Departments and UN agencies;
• Proven initiative, flexibility and pro activity;
• Able to work effectively within a multi-cultural team environment and a gender respectful settings
• Ability to travel to field for extended periods;
• Fluency in written and oral [Pashto/Dari] and a good level of oral and written English.

• Must be able to prioritise work for team members and ensure deadlines are met;
• Excellent multitasking, time management and reporting skills;
• Good problem-solving and diplomacy skills
• Understanding of issues faced by returning refugees and IDPs,
• Ability to gather information systematically to establish trends in displacement and refugee issues
• Ability to remain focused under pressure with a commitment to hard work
• Must be able to prioritize and have excellent multitasking, documentation and reporting skills.
• Knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
• Excellent written and spoken English, Dari and Pashtu are required


13. Personal Qualities
• Ability to generate and apply new ideas and solutions Experience of issues relating to returnees and displacement;
• Familiarity with NRC work in the region;
• [Fluency in Dari (oral and written);]
• Computer literate (MS Office).
