Job Summary

The consultant is required to work closely with the Academic Quality and Planning Stream in order to implement the following tasks:
1. Identify the training needs of the librarians of the ten selected USWDP universities in order to provide tailored professional development interventions.
2. Develop an integrated professional development curriculum for the Training of Trainers (ToT) and librarians of the ten USWDP selected universities.
3. Offer professional development training to the trainers and assist in the training of librarians of the ten USWDP selected universities which will be led by the trainers (Kabul-based librarians).

Duties & Responsibilities

The consultant is required to deliver the following duties along with other tasks as deemed necessary:

a.Identify the training needs of the librarians of the ten selected USWDP universities in order to provide tailored professional development interventions.The needs assessment include:
1. Meet with the librarians of four central Kabul university libraries to identify the training needs in order to make the training as relevant as possible.
2. Collect data to identify training needs through Skype-based interview calls or develop a specific Training Needs Assessment (TNA) for the training of librarians of the six remaining USWDP provincial universities.
3. Develop a concept note describing the need for a library training
4. Provide an outline of the training needs after the training needs assessment.

B.Develop a professional development curriculum for the training of librarians of the ten USWDP selected universities.

3. Develop an assessment tool for determining pre- and post-training knowledge and skill levels of the participating librarians
C.Offer professional development training to the trainers (Kabul-based librarians) and assist in the training of librarians of the six provincial USWDP selected universities.
1. Deliver training to ToTs and assist in the training of librarians of the selected USWDP universities.
2. Assess the outcomes of the training (report).

Specific Products/Deliverables and Timeline
The consultant will produce the following deliverables within the mentioned timeline (1 April, 2015 – 13 May, 2015). NOTE these dates are illustrative and may be changed.

Job Requirements

1. Master’s degree in library science
2. At least 2-3 years of experience working in library management system, cataloging, classification and referencing.
3. Experience in training and managing workshops in digital libraries
4. Excellent English writing skills including proficiency of Dari and Pashto
5. Ability to analyze data using Microsoft Excel or SPSS.
6. Good communication skills to conduct interviews
7. Experience working with higher education or similar institutions
