Islamic Relief has been working in Afghanistan for more than 23 years, providing emergency relief and implementing life-changing development projects for some of the most vulnerable people in the country. Islamic Relief set up our first Afghanistan office in 1999. Since then, IRA continued providing assistances in emergency relief, food security, livelihood, education, health, nutrition, shelter, orphan sponsorship, Ramadan and Qurbani programmes.

Job Summary

The Livelihood assistant will serve as the main technical person for all Livestock-related activities of the project. She or he will be required to work with livestock owner and producer groups to provide technical services, including vaccines, supervision, and animal husbandry training such as health care, housing, management, hygiene feeding, urea treatment, and safe production and marketing in the target project location. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Facilitate quality implementation of the livestock related activities under supervision of the livelihood officer.
  • Conduct market assessment to identify potential sources of animal husbandry and veterinarian services in the target location.
  • Provide livestock input to vulnerable rightsholders considering the project target and work plan.
  • Organize proper livestock input distribution in coordination with engaged stakeholders.
  • Apply the FFS approach, rule, and regulation during the project implementation.
  • Develop a training curriculum and manual regarding livestock management and other livestock-related issues.
  • Conduct animal husbandry & veterinarian trainings (Stable management, dairy processing, pasture management, animal disease management, Silage and concentrate food preparation, and vaccination) to livestock holders. Conduct regular field visits to monitor animal husbandry patterns at target communities.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders (DAIL) to get seasonal vaccinates support to target rightsholders.
  • Participate as a technical person for the livestock inputs procurement and make sure quality items are delivered to rightsholders.
  • Works with other Program staff to coordinate work activities, meet deadlines, and provide support where needed.
  • Represent Islamic Relief Afghanistan at sectoral meetings and any other technical forums as per requirement at provincial level.
  • Take part in the off-farm livelihood activities as per the line manager’s recommendations.
  • Performs other related duties in accordance with instructions from line manager.

Workshops and Events

  • Channelize with relevant veterinary service providers (INGOs, DAIL, and consultancy) to arrange technical and veterinary workshops for rightsholders.
  • Arrange the administrative requirements of workshops and trainings.
  • Conduct pre-training and post-training assessments.
  • Coordinates and disseminates all internal and external material, including publicity and background documents for local and international events; coordinates appropriate mailings or distribution. 


Job Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in animal health/production, Animal Science, Veterinary faculty or closely related field. 

Experience:

  • 2 -3 years’ work experience in relevant field.
  • Previous work experience with an international organization is preferable. 


Required Skills:

  • Be able to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Have the ability to work within a diver’s team.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Familiar with the report preparations. Can speak Dari, Pashto and English and have good knowledge of MS Office.
  • Be punctual, on time, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Be able to organize technical training relevant to the veterinary field.
