The Media Coordinator for Lashkar Gah, under the supervision of the Deputy Director, Public Education and Outreach, and overall supervision of the Director of Public Education and Outreach, will engage with community groups, women’s sector, community councils and the municipal government and particularly the media in all public communication and outreach efforts for RAMP UP South in Lashkar Gah, Helmand Province.
The Media Coordinator will conduct media activities and community outreach according to local standards using a variety of media platforms accessible to RU-S audience. S/he will conduct activities that aim to educate the public, participate in the shura or other community councils, stimulate citizens’ participation, including women and youth, using media and public outreach mechanisms, and tools in all aspects of municipality decision-making and service delivery.
• Responsible for the oversight, management and content of radio program/s and other similar regular media platforms run by RU-S in Lashkar Gah.
• Build, maintain and update a directory of local media contacts and information network (NGOs, community groups, women, youth, relevant agencies, etc.).
• Cultivate and maintain effective networks and working relationship with municipal government, shura, relevant agencies, media, civil society organizations and other relevant partners.
• Assist in the liaison and coordination functions, particularly those related to between RAMP UP South and the municipal government and local stakeholders.
• Assist in the implementation of the RAMP UP South media, public outreach and communication strategy.
• Assist in capturing media and public outreach program results and prepare briefs and ensure media publicity bannered under the municipal government and general appropriate correspondences on RU-S project activities.
• Organize, with the leadership of the Public Outreach Manager, public meetings in target municipalities.
• Develop media programs, such as broadcast and special media that encourages citizen participation with corresponding feedback mechanism; and lead in its execution, in coordination with the Public Outreach team.
• Develop a library and archive all RU-S media and public outreach program-related documentations.
• Any other task or functions as maybe assigned by the Public Outreach Manager or RU-S international team staff.
ï‚§ Degree in Journalism, communications, or equivalent experience
ï‚§ At least 2-3 years of relevant experience particularly on media coordination and management
ï‚§ Ability to write and speak in English.
ï‚§ Ability to work both independently and in a team.
ï‚§ Ability to travel within Afghanistan
ï‚§ Excellent Dari/Pashto language capability
ï‚§ Understanding of media and gender issues preferred
