Job Summary

Molecular Technologist performs tests in molecular diagnostic section of clinical laboratory independently according to the departmental policy and procedures on required basis to ensure timely preparation of the final reports. In addition, he/she also performs tests in other sections of clinical laboratory independently as and when required. The incumbent shall have sound knowledge and confidence in interpretation of laboratory reports and is able to correlate the laboratory test findings with the clinical picture of the patient. Assists in teaching/training of junior staff and trainees according to guidelines provided as and when required.

Duties & Responsibilities

The ideal candidate would be able to:


Ability to work in different sections (Microbiology, Biochemistry, Hematology, Serology and Coagulation, Urine & Parasitology) independently.

Implement safety regulations and quality assurance system.

Ensure availability of control standards and its appropriate & regular utilization.

Be able to advice on methods of collection of specimens for various Laboratory investigations.

Report interpretation and handling of patient’s/ physician compliance/ concerns.

Remain updated and follow infection control procedure within the institution and laboratory.

Close liaison with doctors and coordination with marketing.

Verify all results for the test performed in Kabul at FMIC Lab and at the 3rd party diagnostic facilities.

Make accountability of laboratory inventory (i.e. Medical Surgical Supplies, Quality Control and Reagents).

Ensure timely reporting of all test results performed at FMIC laboratory.

Train other technologists to perform tests in PCR Laboratory.

Monitor plans and collaboration with Bio-Medical Eng. regarding preventive maintenance of equipment and backup plans where every possible in case of equipment break down.

Conduct at least two training session/week for the laboratory staff.

Participate in CME (Continuous Medical Education) activities.

Job Requirements

The Ideal Candidate Should have Professional Qualifications:

B.Sc. in biological sciences (M.Sc. will be an advantage). A candidate having Pharm D degree can also apply, provided s/he has undergone one year training in Medical Laboratory/Molecular Technology.

Good knowledge of latest developments in the fields of Medical Laboratory Technology & Biotechnology/Molecular Biology.

Problem identification and problem solving skills using scientific methods.

Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that arm adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics.

Good knowledge of Laboratory Medicine/ Clinical Laboratory.

The applicant must have good experience of computer software e.g., Microsoft, PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Effective communication Skills.

Good knowledge of latest developments in the fields of Medical Laboratory Technology & Biotechnology/Molecular Biology.

Problem identification and problem solving skills using scientific methods.
