Job Summary

The Project Coordination Unit (PCU) of Project: Irrigation Restoration and Development Project (IRDP) under Ministry of Energy and water now invites National eligible consultants to indicate their interest. Interested eligible candidates must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services and are invited to submit their CV (Curriculum Vitae), including employment records, description of similar assignments carried out, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills etc.

Duties & Responsibilities

Government of Afghanistan has been implementing the Irrigation Rehabilitation and Development Project UTF/AFG/070/AFG (IRDP) with the financial assistance from the World Bank. Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) is providing the technical assistance to this project.
The support to groundwater management of Afghanistan has been added as a sub-component, in additional financing stage.
Afghanistan is appreciably rich in groundwater. The yield potential of the unconsolidated aquifer systems in the country is expected to be significantly higher than the crystalline and carbonate rocks.

The project has planned to carry out groundwater investigations in Kabul, Herat, Mazar-e-Sharif, Jalalabad, Kandahar, Farah and Zaranj.

1. Review existing data and plan for field work;
2. Supervise geophysical survey;
3. Check and finalize geophysical report;
4. Maintain harmony with Focal Point, Hydro-geologist and GIS Specialist;
5. Work together with government counterpart;
6. Pre-plan field visits
7. Interpret VES data and produce 2D and 3D maps
8. solve problems carefully with limited resources
9. Work closely with other staff in the field
10. Any other duties required by the Hydrogeology Department/PCU Management, and conveyed and coordinated by the Focal Point.

Job Requirements

 The National Geophysics Specialist should have minimum Bachelor Degree of geology, Hydrogeology, Surveying, Civil or Geophysics (preferable Master Degree of Geophysics/Geology) with total experience of 5 years, and 3 years’ experience in the field of carrying out geophysics work.
 Knowledge of English and computer literacy are essential.

A consultant will be selected in accordance with Section V Selection of Individual Consultants procedures set out in the World Bank’s Guidelines: Selection and Employment of Consultants by World Bank Borrowers (May 2004 as revised in October 2006 and May 2010).
