The remuneration for the post of National Knowledge Management and Communication Officer is between USD 1,947 to USD 2,335 (SB-4, Step 1 to 2) monthly based on the qualification and experience of the candidate.
The selected candidate will also receive 8.33% of monthly salary as pension benefit/coverage on a monthly basis.
Background:
The “reducing Greenhouse gas emission reduction through community forest and sustainable biomass energy system” &” Community based sustainable land and forest management” project will approach the challenge of mitigating climate change in Afghanistan by promoting technologies and activities that reduce GHG emissions while generating multiple economic, social and environmental benefits. Field-based demonstration activities will be supported by complementary investments in training and capacity-building, providing institutional support to guide decision-making and ongoing research and development of successful approaches. The field-based demonstration activities will focus primarily on: i) supporting the design and implementation of community-based natural resource management/forestry; and ii) promoting and disseminating sustainable biomass energy systems (SBES) as alternatives to traditional household methods for cooking and heating.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Budget Holder/FAO Representative in Afghanistan and direct supervision of the NPM (National Project Manager) and in close collaboration and coordination with Communication Associate at the FAO Representation and other Communication Officers from FAO projects, the National Knowledge Management and Communication Officer will carry out the following tasks:
Developing the Informational, Educational and Project Promotional documents such as broachers, pamphlets, leaflets, case studies, Best practices etc.
Support the preparation and production of six-monthly, annual and terminal reports related to the projects GCP/AFG/081/GFF & GCP/AFG/083/GEF
Collecting information from field and generating case studies, lesson learn reports, facilitating the documentaries and experts for generating the best practices etc.
Coordinate the publication of research results under the project
Support in preparation and finalization of all relevant reports and other documents to different stakeholders, ensuring high standards and quality
Support the NPM on developing and disseminating the project articles, reports, Concept notes and researches publications
Updating the project tools and database with the latest information and making it ready for internal and external circulation
Support the NPM with information knowledge and materials to maintain relationships with counterparts in the country provide assistance with the compilation, management and dissemination of information regarding lessons learned from NRM/Climate change projects;
Facilitate information sharing and generate awareness on the projects and progress to stakeholders, whenever required;
Represent the Organization at project meetings and events, identify strategic partnerships, advocates best practices and increased policy dialogue and develop and negotiate effective working relationships/ consensus and agreements with national stakeholders;
Assist the project workshops such as inception and validation workshops, project meetings, events and field missions including logistics and drafting of mission ToRs;
Prepare a final report at the end of the consultancy, containing all conclusions, recommendations and the updated version of the action plan.
Provide up to date information on the project on FAO Afghanistan website;
Document field activities through reports, photos and blogs;
Formulate regular project newsletter, e.g. every quarter, that reports key activities and achievement for wider dissemination to partners and collaborators
Conduct any other tasks deemed necessary & assigned by supervisor/FAO.
Expected Outputs: KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
Support the preparation of six-monthly, annual and terminal reports related to the GCP/081 & 083/ GEF projects
Updating the project tools, prepare project database and update with the latest information and making it ready for internal and external circulation
Developing the Informational, Educational and Project Promotional documents such as broachers, pamphlets, leaflets, newsletters etc.
Facilitate the project events and making project publication ready for dissemination
Prepare latest information for website, documentation of field activities and project newsletter
Bachelor Degree in Journalism, Environmental Sciences, Development Studies, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Natural Resources Management or closely related field;
At least five (05) years of relevant work experience in the field of Communication, Journalism, land/natural resources management, agriculture, forestry, land use planning, or related field.
Good skills in database management, data analysis and report writing;
Good interpersonal communication and coordination skills;
Ability to identify and resolve problems expeditiously and pragmatically; tact, initiative and sound judgment;
Ability to establish and maintain good working relations with other staff / colleagues from different cultural background.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely; and to learn new things quickly.
Working knowledge (level C) of English and of the most widely used local language ( i.e. Dari and Pashto)
Good computer skills including MS Office Package.
