Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Doctors Without Borders) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters to populations in danger in more than 70 countries.
Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.
• Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing i.e., perform as a nurse or anaesthetist, whenever required or needed, in order to optimize the resources, contributing with his/her knowledge and experience.
• Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service in his/her speciality.
• Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to en-sure the coverage of the human resources needs and maintain high standards of quality.
• Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their de-struction, drugs consumption, etc.) in his or her department, in order to satisfy the needs of material with efficiency and effectiveness.
• Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and mi-nor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols. Reporting any malfunction to the project biomedical service.
• Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative (exit-paper, transfer-paper, etc.), information and data col-lection (patient files, forms, statistics, etc.) tasks, and elaborate regular reporting, in order to have up-dated and reliable information about the day-to-day activity in the project, output/ outcome and sup-port decision-taking.
• Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
· Ensure daily presence in all MRH departments supported by MSF (Triage & ER, Neonatal Ward, Premature Ward, NICU and PICU).
· Daily allocation of staff (nurses and NA) to different wards/rooms according to operational needs and staff experience/skills in order to ensure safe practices.
· Regularly participate of clinical activities to identify gaps and provide on-the-job training for the team according to the project needs and MSF protocols.
· Monitor and reinforce implementation of MSF protocols and guidelines in the services where MSF is present (triage done according to criteria, medication administered according to guidelines, etc.).
· Supervise that the team is following doctors prescriptions and recommendations, and communicate with NAM when in doubt or if any concerns regarding treatment (timely milk and drug administration, accurate nursing documentation, etc.)/
· Ensure resources are available and readily to use in the clinical areas (emergency trolleys, controlled drugs, consumables, biomed, etc.).
· Plan and coordinate accordingly the relevant team activities (weekly schedule, monthly roster, annual leave, absences, etc.) and communicate with NAM all relevant information.
· Together with the NAMs, consciously work on stablishing effective collaboration and working network with MoH team and other external actors present.
· Close collaboration, communication, and coordination with MRH head of nurse to ensure a better management of MRH nurses in the roster for benefit of the patients (Absenteeism, sick leave, holidays, maternity/paternity leave, new allocation, etc).
· Under the leadership and guidance of the Infection Prevention and Control team (NAM and supervisors), participate of IPC related activities and reinforce implementation of IPC measures in the different wards according to standards.
· Implement and follow up staff development plan through the usage of Feedback tool. Liaise with NAM and L&D team for support if required. Evaluate performance and define training needs of staff under their responsibility when required.
· Stablish an effective communication line with other teams’ supervisors (MDs, pharmacy, HP, biomed, etc.) in order to ensure delivery of holistic care to service users (both patients and caretakers).
· Liaise with other supervisors in order to recognise and resolve potential challenges. Communicate and ask NAM for support when unable to reach a solution independently.
· Collaborate and liaise with Health Promotion team to identify gaps and improve quality of our services (communication with care takers, HP needs, etc.).
· Identify situations that might be suitable for disciplinary actions and communicate with line manager.
· Show availability and willingness to participate in the Hospital Management platform (meetings, committee, etc.).
· Participate in any other related activities as requested by the line manager (NAMs).
Minimum Requirements and Competencies
Education Speciality (nurse or anesthetist) diploma essential.
Experience Essential 2 years of previous experience. Having worked in MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
Languages English essential; Local Working Language Desirable
Knowledge Essential computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
Working hours and Salary
- Full Time / Schedule: 176 hours per month - due to the nature of the position the candidate must be willing and capable to sometimes work outside regular office hours
- Salary will be paid according to the MSF salary grid (L-8)
