Job Summary
OFC Engineer is responsible for the installation and rectification of all Optical Fiber Cable related work as required. Support and coordinate with other departments or inter-departments for any required work related to the OFC job. Plan, design, and recommend related OFC networks to uplift the company services internally and externally including leased lines or customer networks.
Duties & Responsibilities
Join a team of engineers and technicians tasked with ensuring the problem-free replacement of AWCC and external customer copper cable network with OFC. This is a cross-functional task and must work with MW, IPO, BSS, VSAT, VAS, IN, and IT teams to provide the required connectivity between network elements.
Maintain accurate documentation of the configurations of all OFC infrastructures deployed in AWCC’s network and other customer premises all over Afghanistan.
Task involves the installation of different types of ODF(2 core, 4 core, 6 core, 12 core, 24 core, 48 core, 96 core, 288 core), different types of enclosure (48 core, 9,6 core, and 288) inside MH & HH, fiber splicing, optical fiber testing using different tools and test equipment such as; OTDR, Fusion splicing machine, Tone generator, Tone detector, Optical power meter, Fiber inspection probe, Fault finder, and other accessories for troubleshooting and splicing.
Troubleshoot and repair any faults that may occur in the OFC networks, this includes replacing damaged connectors and splicing broken cables.
Ensure that trouble tickets that are generated for all faults and incidents will be responded to and that the NOC is kept informed of any resolution and rectification being done.
Ensure routine preventive maintenance tasks are performed for all OFC infrastructure in AWCC and external customer networks.
Coordinate test and fault investigation activities as required, coordinate with vendors, if necessary, and customers to resolve any technical issues.
Coordinate CRQ and upgrade/enhancement activities as required.
Actively work in transferring skills and knowledge to other local staff.
Willing to travel and to be assigned to other areas of the country once support is required.
Any other duties assigned by the line manager.
Job Requirements
Must have a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Telecommunication Engineering.
Must have a minimum of 2 years of working experience in a related field.
Good verbal and written English communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with maintenance, and support personnel of vendors, AWCC, and AWCC’s external customers.
Willing to travel to remote parts of the country.
Willing to self-drive the company’s vehicle if required as part of the company’s requirements.
Familiarity with various test equipment; OTDR, fusion machine, OFC power meter, Inspection probe, tone generator, tone detector, fault finder, multimeter, OFC cable testers, and multi-purpose hand-held equipment.
Ability to read and understand network design, specifications, and drawings.
Good communication skills and the ability to operate in a team.
