BACKGROUND:
DAI is implementing the USAID funded Afghanistan Competitiveness of Export-Oriented Businesses Activity (ACEBA) Program. The objective of this program is to enhance capacities of Afghan exporters and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) associated with export-oriented value chains, such as carpets, marble and granite, precious stones and jewelry, textiles, and cashmere as a means of promoting sustainable economic growth and increasing employment.
PURPOSE
Under the direct supervision of the Facilities Specialist, the Office Cook shall prepare lunches and any other specially requested meals/snacks for ACEBA staff and visitors
OBJECTIVE AND DUTIES:
• Take care of kitchen management and food hygiene
• Prepare staff lunches according to assigned schedules for ACEBA Afghan and international staff, and visitors, at the office.
• Ensure that all food is prepared in a sanitary and appealing manner.
• Shop for all food and supplies required for the operation of the kitchen and the provision of meals in coordination with the Facilities Specialist.
• Store all food items according to standard hygiene practices.
• Ensure that all cupboards and contents are organized and clean and the cabinets clearly labeled with the contents.
• Notify Facilities Specialist of any kitchen equipment or maintenance needs.
• Be available to support with special occasions and additional requests.
• Prepare beverages and snacks for meetings as required.
• Clean the kitchen and dining room after every meal with the cook’s assistant, ensuring that all pots & pans, kitchen appliances, cutlery and crockery are clean and neatly stored and that all surfaces are cleaned properly.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experience working preferably with international donor-funded projects, UN agencies or INGO’s on programs in Afghanistan.
Other Skills:
• Some secondary school education desirable.
• Knowledge of food hygiene standards.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Punctual and reliable.
• Team oriented.
Languages:
• Fluent in spoken and written Pashto or Dari, basic English.
REPORTING:
• The position reports to the Facilities Specialist.
