Job Summary

This will be a full-time, temporary position for a translator whose main task will be to translate the content of AUAF’s website to both Pashto and Dari. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Director of Communications and working closely with the Assistant Director of Communications, the translator will also be responsible for the translation from English into both Dari and Pashto of external communications, including but not limited to news stories, press releases, social media posts, fliers, promotional materials, and web content.

Work Environment:

Work is performed in an office desk space, and campus academic division/department offices. Work days are Sunday through Thursday. This position is a temporary posting for 6 months.

Duties & Responsibilities


Complete translation of all web content from English into both Pashto and Dari;

Translate a variety of materials, including but not limited to news stories, press releases, social media posts, fliers, promotional materials, and web content, from English to Pashto and Dari and vice versa, with attention to fact and nuance, so that the intent and tone of the original meaning is preserved;

Edit, standardize, proofread, revise and finalize translated material prepared by other employees, as and when needed;

Organize translated material and finalize translation according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology;

Basic administrative tasks as needed, such as printing and filing documents, etc.

Other tasks as requested by the Director and Assistant Director of Communications.

Job Requirements


At least 5 years professional translation experience

Written and spoken fluency in Pashto, Dari, and English

Strong written and oral linguistic skills in Pashto, Dari, and English

A bachelor degree in English literature, linguistics, or journalism with 2 years of experience is preferred

Advanced computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office programs

Able to type quickly and efficiently

Ability to work both independently and in a team

Basic knowledge of Word Press web software is desirable
