Job Summary:
Objectives of the Assignment
The main objectives of this assignment, under the supervision of the Supervision and Design Manager, shall be:
i. To design the KMDP upgrading road projects considering sustainable design concepts such as pervious pavements and retention basins.
ii. Monitor implementation of the prepared designs, particularly, for new concepts.
iii. Share the knowledge of sustainable designs with the teammates.
Scope of Services:
The Pavement Design Engineer shall, but not limited to, undertake the followings:
Review and comment on site topography
Review and comment on the geotechnical investigation
Review and comment on hydrology/hydraulics reports/data
Consider the best practices on sustainability for pavement design
Conduct benefit cost analysis of the design alternatives
Recommend a feasible pavement type (Permeable, AC, PCC, ...)
Analysis and design of the pavements structures
Analysis and design of drainage structures (ditches, culverts, …)
Visit the project site to ensure a feasible design
Provide design report
Prepare design drawings
Work in close coordination with other design engineers.
Participate in the seminars/workshops and share the gained knowledge with the team.
Facilitate and conduct trainings for project staff and Civil Servants from Kabul Municipality.
Carry out any other tasks (relevant to the ToR) assigned by the Supervision and Design Manager or the Team Leader.
Reporting:
The Pavement Design Engineer will prepare and submit weekly reports on his/her activities to the Supervision and Design Manager.
Major duties & responsibilities:
The duties & responsibilities of the Design Engineer shall comprise (but not necessarily be limited to the following items).
Preparing a complete & comprehensive plan for design process, as per KMDP general upgrading plan;
Responsible and undertake design duties for road & miscellaneous design (drainages, culverts, footpaths & other related structures);
Collect design data from the field and KM relevant departments;
Check & review to be ensure that collected data & survey data are as per site, realistic and update;
Interpret survey results into technical drawings;
Prepare design drawings using Civil 3D, AutoCAD or any similar type of software;
Prepare design reports, drawings, profiles, cross sections, material and cost estimates;
Ensure that the technical issues were highly considered while the Gozars’ boundaries being delineated.
Ensure all designs are suitable and in compliance with KMDP technical specification & standards,
Provide technical advice and assistance to KMDP contractors;
Ensure that the design and estimation for all upgrading projects are covered and the plans are achieved.
Promoting and improving professional standards for road engineering design;
Undertaking design duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager,
Advising and supporting the Supervision Engineer and the QA/QC Engineers on any technical design issues arising from the projects;
Advising the Project Manager on project design in all projects.
Perform any other duty in line with this ToR as requested by the KMDP management.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
The successful candidate should have Afghan nationality and should fulfill, as the minimum, the following requirements;
Minimum, Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, preferably Master's degree in Structural/Material engineering
Minimum, 5 years’ experience in design and construction of road projects
Minimum, 2 years’ experience in pavement design
High degree of familiarity with pavement design software and guides is essential.
The candidate should be fluent in written and spoken English as well as local languages.
Have good communication skills
The successful candidate should have Afghan nationality and should fulfill, as the minimum, the following requirements;
