Job Summary

Purpose of job:
To give a range of administrative, logistical and project management support, in line with agreed procedures and standards and to the satisfaction of customers and management.


Context and environment: (e.g. dept description, region description, organogram)

The post will be supporting the Operational team of British Council Afghanistan based in Kabul.

Plays a role in upholding a culture of cooperation and collaboration by delivering customer focussed support to the programme team.

The post holder will benefit from a range of learning and development opportunities during his/her employment with The British Council based on the country learning and development plan.

Due to the overall country security situation, the post holder may work in stressful and sometime difficult environment.

The post holder will be working with internal and external customers including government counterparts, partners and clients.

The post holder will report to programme manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Programme and projects delivery support including logistics and administration


To support the design, development, delivery, administration, organisation, technical supervision and promotion of a range of British Council projects and events, including Regional and Global Projects

Arrangements for events, visits, workshops and consultancies (including transportation, accommodation and appointments) are carried out efficiently, on schedule and within budget.

All financial matters (budget estimates, quotations, payments requests, commitments, expenditure records, cash flow forecasts etc) are maintained and submitted in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with British Council systems.

All correspondence and enquiries are answered promptly within two days

Visits or phone communication with all key contact institutions/individuals takes place on a monthly basis.

Effective management and development of an agreed area of office responsibility

Regular and active participation in cross departmental office meetings and training sessions

Assist the project team in developing printed and electronic communications for external/internal use

Arrange meetings and organise meeting rooms for meetings and events

Provide logistical/administration support to the operation team as required

Manage British Council records for programmes (inc file set-up and archiving)

Register all incoming and outgoing correspondence and dispatch them to relevant addresses on time

Maintain stationery supplies

Backup and support as required, e.g. Customer Services , Exams etc.

Corporate policies and standards are applied throughout the programme activities

Contractual and customer specific requirements are met

Standard BC administration policies are followed

Confidence in processing correspondence and liaising with government departments as required

Results from customer questionnaires and other relevant sources reflect customer satisfaction

Successful programme delivery

British Council customer service excellence standards adhered to

British Council performance management standards are met

Own personal development plan in place and up to date

Financial administration

Work as OS01

Perform FABS related duties in support of project activities
