Job Summary

The incumbent shall perform under the direct supervision of Media Director. His/her specific responsibilities are as below:

Duties & Responsibilities

- Oversee all editorial, technical, administrative, and operational activities related to the production and broadcast of programs on Sheba Radio.
- Lead a fully functioning radio station, comprised of news, sales, promotions, marketing, multiplatform technology, and other support functions.
- Assist the Media Director, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and Charter Members with the development of strategies and editorial guidelines for Sheba Radio.
- Ensure that all programs are produced in compliance with the applicable laws of Afghanistan and editorial policies of Sheba Radio.
- Coordinate activities with other media components, design demand-based programs, review/edit program profiles, apply suggested changes/improvements, and manage and control broadcast schedules.
- Oversee and direct station programming, production and broadcast of news, talk shows, on-air performances, and live interviews.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of programs through surveys and manage changes required for improvement.
- Understand dynamics, issues, and trends in radio programs; and design programs accordingly.
- Ensure that proper mechanisms for archives are in place.
- Oversee the production and post-production activities of all programs and projects.
- Create, research, develop, and deliver new and creative ideas for programs, documentaries, current affairs, etc.
- Prepare and provide progress reports to the top management on a daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
- Maintain professional journalistic standards, impartiality, and balanced views.
- Have knowledge of the radio market, different stations and program styles, and audience demographics.
- Lead meetings, create daily, weekly, and monthly action plans for the staff, and ensure timelier delivery through constant follow-ups.
- Make recommendations to the management on technical advancements and new equipment requirements.
- Supervise radio announcers, producers, clerical and volunteer personnel, assign on-air shifts, oversee the training of operators, evaluate employee performance, and recommend disciplinary actions.
- Seek, select, and order programming for broadcast from a variety of vendors including public and private production companies and independent producers.
- Assist with after-hour activities as needed.
- Represent Sheba Radio with external agencies at all levels in an appropriate and professional manner e.g. partner/client community groups, local businesses, mainstream public agencies, etc.
- Participate in the Senior Management Meetings and advise the management on the implementation status of Sheba Radio.
- Suggest initiatives that improve working quality and efficiency.
- Provide on-the-job training to Sheba Radio staff.
- Perform any other duties delegated by the supervisor/senior staff.

Job Requirements

Education:
- University degree in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Media, Communication, Journalism, Social Sciences, or equivalent. Candidates who possess strong experience in relevant field can also apply.

Previous Work Experience:
- The candidate MUST have at least three to four (4) year progressive experience in the relevant field.
- Experience of working in the related geography.
- Should be aware of international and national operational trends.
- Shall be detailed-oriented and have strong organizational skills.
- Have the ability to work as a team leader and/or team member.
- Have the ability to work in an exciting, energetic and agile environment.
- Have interpersonal and communication skills.
- Shall comprehend and perform job duties without a lot of direction and work independently.
- Shall be a strategic thinker and have the ability to generate creative and innovative ideas.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure.
- Proficient in basic computer applications, such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
- Ability to speak, read, and write Pashto, Dari, and English.
