Develops fundamental relationships between the spatial and temporal interactions of biotic and abiotic components and ecosystem responses required to achieve successful restoration/re-vegetation of degraded semi-arid rangelands;
Develop predictive functions to describe interaction between restoration/re-vegetation techniques and invasive plants on ecosystems (e.g. runoff, soil erosion/sediment, biodiversity, and forage production) in semi-arid rangeland watersheds;
Conduct independent and team research related to developing decision tools for natural resources management and environmental assessments at the landscape and watershed scales;
Combine findings into decision support systems to evaluate the feasibility and benefits of alternative conservation systems to enhance sustainability of rangeland landscapes and watersheds;
Monitoring, gathering, analyzing, interpreting and evaluating data to determine land management, economic & social goals & objectives identified for land in project zone.
Plan and carry out systematic ecosystem based rangeland surveys and inventories to identify and assess rangeland characteristics, amounts, types, values, and susceptibility of various land areas to specific land uses.
Participate in the identification, development, implementation, and evaluation of rangeland projects.
Gather and assemble data concerning rangeland health, trends, and ecological status of vegetation communities, site potential and desired plant community.
Link current knowledge of plant community change to restoration and management of invasive dominated communities.
Identify biotic and abiotic factors that control establishment and persistence of desired rangeland species.
Develop decision-making frameworks for rangeland restoration and conduct gap filling research to improve the decision-making process.
Evaluate the protection and enhancement of sustainable ecosystems that would provide forage for wildlife and livestock, clean water and recreation on public and private land.
Assess and implement rehabilitation and land reclamation techniques following drastic disturbances such as wildfires, droughts, floods, landslides and extractions of minerals ;
Work closely with team members (notably Pastureland/Forage/Livestock Specialist) and coordinate range and wildlife management with other functional activities in conjunction with the concepts of multiple use management.
Prepare assigned portions of environmental assessments as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
Makes recommendations for improved rangeland administration and provide input into the development of subsequent rangeland management decisions.
Prepare or initiate action on cooperative agreements for rangeland improvements.
Determine rangeland readiness for various rangeland uses,
Determine compliance and make recommendations to correct discrepancies.
Design and conduct reports on these topics.
Four years or more of experience in a similar position.
Bachelor’s or MA degree required. (Geography, Ecology, Environment, Land Resources)
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and PowerPoint.in Excel and other MS office applications
Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, Pashto and Dari
Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects.
Must be capable of working both individually and as part of a team to undertake tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, diplomacy, willingness to listen and respect for male and female colleagues.
