Job Summary

To Functionalize PCR,ELISA and Bacteriology Culture testing sections at the above mentioned renovated Regional Reference Lab (RRL), after getting required training programs under project;
To establish working Procedures/Protocols for ELISA, PCR, Bacteriology culture and Lab management work at regional levels;
To train Afghan lab medical doctors/ technologists at regional reference lab in a competent level to run PCR, ELISA and Bacteriology sections until the regional level permanent staff became capable to run the diagnostic techniques independently;

Duties & Responsibilities

Main responsibilities:
To Functionalize PCR,ELISA and Bacteriology Culture testing sections at the above mentioned renovated Regional Reference Lab (RRL), after getting required training programs under project;
To establish working Procedures/Protocols for ELISA, PCR, Bacteriology culture and Lab management work at regional levels;
To train Afghan lab medical doctors/ technologists at regional reference lab in a competent level to run PCR, ELISA and Bacteriology sections until the regional level permanent staff became capable to run the diagnostic techniques independently;
Be able to serve as a trainer on technical processes and take lead in management of reference lab as well as provincial labs to perform stock report, lab equipment inventory, follow up of SoPs as per available kits/reagents ,supplies management and biosafety issues;
To ensure that lab staffs are performing quality testing to attain all of the competencies outlined in the Objectives of GF HSS Lab Project, successfully pass their quality Control examinations and obtain all of the skill needed to be successful in their chosen careers.
To develop SOPs, guideline and training curricula/plan for the training of regional level staff in PCR, ELISA, Bacteriology more focusing on TB,HIV/AIDS, Malaria and other blood borne diseases;
To establish a lab network at regional level labs and coordinate all technical/management related tasks with director of Central Public Health Lab

(CPHL) and GF Lab Manager including monthly, quarterly reports and lab data records;
Any other tasks requested by the respected PHD for provision of lab technical support and the CPHL directorate for the sake of well establishment of lab network in Afghanistan.
Scope of Services:
The candidate will be part of regional lab team that coordinate HSS-GF lab project activities for functionalizing Bacteriology culture, PCR and ELISA units at the regional lab of Paktya.
Objective:

To functionalize PCR, ELISA and Bacteriology units at the RRL of Paktya;

To ensure proper quality diagnosis as per the scope of RRL of Paktya;

To closely work with GF-HSS lab team and support all the available units.

Job Requirements

Qualification and Experience:
Bachelor degree in Medical Technology;
Experience: at least 1 year, familiarity/interest in Bacteriology work and bench person is preferred;
Ability to travel to the provincial level labs for conduction of laboratory trainings and implement quality control programs for labs under HSS coverage in southern region provinces;
Be able to read, write and understand English language
Basic computer skills ( MS word, MS Excel, MS PPP )

Deliverables:

Keep Regional Reference Lab PCR & ELISA and Bacteriology Units functionalized;

Based on standard guidelines, develop quality lab procedures and train Afghan medical technologists in new techniques;

Work with team on QC and implement this program at the unit.

Maintain quality medical laboratory services at the regional reference laboratories and provide technical support.
Ability to travel to the provincial level labs for conduction of laboratory trainings and implement quality control programs for labs under HSS coverage in southern region provinces;
Be able to read, write and understand English language
Basic computer skills ( MS word, MS Excel, MS PPP )
