Job Summary

The Senior Manager of Telecommunications Operations is a crucial leadership position tasked with overseeing the planning, implementation, and management of telecommunications infrastructure, services, and operations within a telecom organization. This role demands a strategic mindset, robust leadership skills, and a profound understanding of telecommunications technologies to foster operational excellence and align with the organization's business objectives. As a visionary leader, the Senior Manager holds a key role in shaping the organization's telecommunications strategy, driving operational efficiency, fostering innovation, and ensuring the delivery of reliable, high-performance telecommunications services. This pivotal position requires a comprehensive grasp of telecommunications technologies, strong business acumen, and the ability to navigate a dynamic and evolving landscape, playing a critical role in shaping the future of the organization's telecommunications landscape.


Duties & Responsibilities

1.   Strategic Planning and Leadership:

 

-        Develop and implement strategic plans for telecommunications operations in alignment with the organization's goals and industry best practices.

-        Provide vision, direction, and leadership to the telecommunications operations team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

 

2.    Infrastructure Management:

 

-         Oversee the design, deployment, and maintenance of telecommunications infrastructure, including network systems, data centers, hardware, and related technologies.

-          Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of telecommunications infrastructure to meet current and future business requirements.

 

3.   Service Delivery and Quality Assurance:

 

-          Establish and enforce service level agreements (SLAs) for telecommunications services, and ensure consistent delivery of high-quality, reliable services to internal and external stakeholders.

-          Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and improve the quality and efficiency of telecommunications operations.

 

4.   Vendor Management and Partnerships:

 

-        Manage relationships with telecommunications vendors, service providers, and technology partners to optimize service delivery, negotiate contracts, and ensure cost-effective solutions.

-        Evaluate and select vendors, products, and technologies to support the organization's telecommunications needs.

 

5.   Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management:

 

-        Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and legal requirements related to telecommunications operations and data privacy.

-        Identify and mitigate risks related to telecommunications infrastructure, services, and operations.

 

6.   Budgeting and Resource Management:

 

-        Develop and manage budgets for telecommunications operations, including capital expenditures, operational expenses, and resource allocation.

-        Optimize resource utilization and staffing to meet operational demands and business objectives.

 

7.   Change Management and Innovation:

 

-        Lead the evaluation, planning, and implementation of new telecommunications technologies, tools, and methodologies to drive innovation and operational efficiency.

-        Champion change management initiatives to support the adoption of new technologies and processes within the organization.

 

8.   Stakeholder Engagement and Communication:

 

-        Engage with internal stakeholders, including senior leadership, business units, and IT teams, to understand and address telecommunications requirements and priorities.

-        Communicate effectively with stakeholders to provide updates, solicit feedback, and align telecommunications operations with business needs.

 

9.   Performance Monitoring and Reporting:

 

-        Establish mechanisms for monitoring the performance of telecommunications systems, networks, and services, and implement proactive measures to address performance bottlenecks and service interruptions.

-        Prepare and present regular reports on the performance, utilization, and capacity of telecommunications infrastructure and services to senior leadership and stakeholders.

 

10. Talent Development and Team Building:

 

-        Foster a culture of learning, growth, and excellence within the telecommunications operations team, providing mentorship, coaching, and professional development opportunities to team members.

-        Build and maintain a high-performing telecommunications operations team through effective recruitment, training, and talent management practices.

 

11. Customer Experience and Satisfaction:

 

-        Champion a customer-centric approach to telecommunications operations, ensuring that services are designed and delivered to meet the needs and expectations of internal and external customers.

-        Solicit feedback from customers and stakeholders to continuously improve the quality and relevance of telecommunications services.

 

12. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:

 

-        Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans for telecommunications operations, ensuring the resilience and availability of critical services in the event of disruptions or disasters.

-        Conduct regular testing and simulations to verify the effectiveness of disaster recovery plans and identify areas for improvement.

 

13. Industry Engagement and Partnerships:

 

-        Stay abreast of industry developments, standards, and emerging technologies in the telecommunications domain, and represent the organization in industry forums, conferences, and partnerships.

-        Collaborate with industry peers and partners to share best practices, identify opportunities for collaboration, and drive innovation in telecommunications operations.

 

14. Continuous Improvement and Operational Excellence:

 

-        Lead initiatives to drive operational excellence, streamline processes, and optimize the efficiency of telecommunications operations through the adoption of automation, standardization, and best practices.

-        Establish a culture of continuous improvement, encouraging feedback, innovation, and the implementation of new ideas within the telecommunications operations team.


OH&S / QMS Role and Responsibilities

1.    Ensures that all projects activities adhere to all OH&S and QMS standards.

2.    Ensures that company’s procedures are implemented and followed. Suggests improvement if necessary.

3.    Responsible for availability, implementation and follow-up of standard procedures and processes (Technical and organizational).

4.    Proactively reviews processes, documentation and procedures to keep updated on operational activities.

5.    Coordinates efforts with all sections of the company (Procurement & Logistics, HR and Accounts) as per i engineering’s internal procedures.

6.    Reviews OHS reports from field or regional supervisors, evaluates and suggests improvements using i engineering’s reporting formats and procedures.

7.    Monitors the Site Safety Induction sheet filled by subcontractors, and manages them according to policy.

8.    Checks that the incident investigation reports are filled.

9.    Ensures that adequate PPE is used by both i engineering teams and Subcontractors

10. Requests for the replacement of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)’s when required.

11. Ensures that safe work procedures are being adhered to by team members.

12. Deals directly with the client’s representative on all OH&S matters when required.

13. Prepares and distributes a variety of reports as requested by Head.

14. Be responsible for the application, compliance and regular updating of the security plan in place both by the local team and by visitors.

15. Ensures visitors receive a proper security and context briefing and monitors the security adherence.

16. Provides the general coordination with security-related feedback and systematically report in writing any security incident involving the teams.

17. Investigates accidents, incidents, and hazards and implements the necessary corrective and preventive actions to mitigate incidents, accidents and hazards.

18. Ensures that all placards are clear, clean and well maintained.

19. Provides training to enhance the OHSAS knowledge and competence.

20. Conducts emergency preparedness drills on a regular basis.

21. Conducts regular site inspections.

22. Monitors hazard controls (PPE, engineering controls, policies, procedures).


Job Requirements

-        Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. A master's degree is a plus.

-        Proven experience (8+ years) in telecommunications operations, including at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.

-        Multi task person, be well organized and have the ability to work well under pressure.

-        Must be comfortable with handling multiple projects and assignments with strict deadlines.

-        In-depth knowledge of telecommunications technologies, network architecture, and industry trends.

-        Strong leadership, team building, and people management skills.

-        Excellent strategic planning and decision-making abilities.

-        Experience in managing complex projects and initiatives related to telecommunications infrastructure and services.

-        Solid understanding of regulatory compliance, risk management, and vendor management in the telecom industry.

-        Exceptional communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

-        Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, ITIL, CCIE) are advantageous.
