Afghanistan Rural Enterprise Development Programme, Multi Location
The goal of this project is to raise awareness of AREDP through developing photo catalogues of SMEs/EGs and short documentary about successful SMEs/EGs that are/were supported by the program. The materials will be used for advocacy and publicity purposes, for distribution to local and international aid agencies, communities, general audience, government officials, television and radio. The material therefore should be impartial and credible and should have a positive tone, imparting the message that AREDP is producing tangible results, and show how Afghans can bring lasting change to their own lives. In view of this AREDP would like to select a professional photographer and film maker (documentary) who will work with AREDP for the duration of two and a half months to provide professional photographic coverage and documentary of the program activities in seven provinces.
Capture high resolution images of rural supported SMEs’ (200 images) and EGs’ (96 images) products and activities of SMEs/EGs from seven provinces
Specific requirements for photos:
Color photos;
In electronic form on CD or flash card;
Format of electronic pictures: JPEG, maximum TIFF, BMP, PNG;;
Resolution: high (minimum 300 dpi scale up to A1 size) that will be of internationally accepted standard;
Pixel dimension 4200x2800 pixels
The consultant will be requested to provide samples of his photographs and short documentary for selection committee;
The consultant is expected to design (in consultation with AREDP) two high quality catalogues with 100 pictures each;
Develop a high quality short documentary (10-15 minutes) that tells real stories that can exhibits AREDPs overall contribution to the rural Afghans lives.
Enterprise Develop Unit (EDU) and Community Enterprise Development need to answer the consultant’s quarries and ensure he/she understands the projects he/she visits. The consultant is encouraged to work independently so that he/she can capture the success/es from a different and neutral angle.
The consultant is expected to film, provide sound recording, subtitles and editing of the documentary
Deliver the final/approval version of the documentary with English subtitles and provide a copy of documentary on DVD;
The consultant should obtain oral consent when taking pictures or video of beneficiaries , particularly female beneficiaries;
Undertake field trip to seven provinces of AREDP and travel to SMEs/EGs locations in the villages;
The consultant is expected to supply all photographic and film making equipment, professional digital and video camera, and a range of accessories (AREDP staff may visit the office to verify the quality of the equipment);
The consultant does not own any rights to the final product. He/she is not able to sell, distribute or publish any information;
1. Required Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 years of working experience in commercial art, TV/Video production and photography in social/development area with an international organization/s
Minimum University Degree in Graphic Design (commercial art) and good skills of photography
Excellent command of Dari, Pashtu and English languages
Advance knowledge and skills of Photoshop or other relevant software
2. Knowledge/Experience:
Theoretical and professional background in photography, audio-visual art, filmmaking, scrip-writing, film production. Ability to plan, produce and direct films. Demonstrate up to date knowledge of new technologies and trends in photography, filmmaking and production. Commitment to ensure equal participation of women and men in all aspects of the production.
To be able to demonstrate skills of producing documentaries;
Planning & Organizing - Ability to plan own work and manage priorities;
Communications - Good communication (spoken and written) skills
Teamwork - Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with people in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
The consultant should be well aware of legal, editorial and ethical issues, as well as full respect the national, ethnic religious and cultural sensitivities of Afghanistan context;
Demonstrate experience and methodology in managing a complex language environment –the ability to create a film with subtitles for non-Pashtu/Dari speaking audience;

Ability to build and sustain effective work relationships with a diverse range of clients, partners, peers and subordinates to achieve common goals;
Ability to multi-task, be flexible, and effectively lead a team in a high pressure working environment;
Professionalism in appearance and demeanour;
Willingness to enhance knowledge through training and personal initiative;
Willingness and ability to travel in rural areas of Afghanistan.
