Job Summary
The Site Surveyor – Substation & Transmission Line is responsible for conducting precise land and topographical surveys to support the planning, design, and execution of substation and transmission line projects. This role involves operating modern survey equipment, collecting and analyzing spatial data, preparing detailed survey reports and maps, and ensuring alignment with engineering designs. The Site Surveyor works closely with engineering teams, project managers, and field staff to ensure accurate site layout, coordinate survey activities, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate should possess strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging site environments.
Duties & Responsibilities
Conduct detailed topographical and site surveys for substation and transmission line projects.
Prepare and maintain accurate survey records including sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of the surveyed areas.
Verify the accuracy of survey data, measurements, and calculations collected from the field.
Utilize modern surveying instruments including Total Station, Theodolites, Auto Level, and D-GPS equipment.
Establish and mark fixed points for use in project layout and mapping.
Conducting surveys to determine the optimal route, tower locations, and other critical aspects for the construction of power transmission lines.
Stub setting of equal and unequal tower location.
Read and execute the cross-section drawings
Interpret engineering drawings and design plans to conduct layout and alignment work on site.
Coordinate and communicate survey findings with engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders.
The Survey engineer will be responsible for checking and guiding the work of the construction team in the fields of foundation.
Supervise and guide survey assistants and helpers on-site; ensure proper delegation of survey activities.
Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and handling of all surveying equipment.
Record and document survey results such as shape, contour, elevation, and dimensions of land and physical features.
Prepare or supervise the preparation of survey drawings, data reports, maps, and related documentation.
Identify and mark construction reference points and layout design as per project specifications.
Support in conducting informational surveys (e.g., land use, existing utilities, obstacles, etc.).
Follow all site safety protocols and company policies during survey operations.
Attend regular weekly and monthly project meetings to report progress and address challenges.
Maintain close coordination with the office/project team and line manager for daily instructions and reporting.
Comply with instructions issued by the Survey Department and ensure adherence to technical standards.
Perform quality checks to ensure survey accuracy meets design and execution requirements.
Implement the 3-week look ahead schedule.
Carry out any other job-related tasks assigned by Line Manager.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geodesy, or related field.
5 years Proven experience in surveying, in power sector (Substations/Transmission Lines).
Competent in reading and understanding Specifications, and drawings, and reviewing design and all other disciplines related to the Project and engineering documentation.
Proficiency in using surveying tools and software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS tools).
Strong knowledge of engineering plans, layouts, and construction drawings.
Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and team collaboration.
Physical fitness and willingness to work in remote or challenging environments.
