Job Summary

The Substation Automation and SCADA Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of substation automation systems and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems to ensure efficient, reliable, and secure operation of electrical substations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed designs and engineering plans for substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Specify and select appropriate hardware and software components for automation and control.
  • Create and review engineering documentation, including schematics, wiring diagrams, and communication network designs.
  • Configure and program SCADA systems for monitoring and controlling substation equipment.
  • Develop and implement Human-Machine Interface (HMI) screens and control algorithms.
  • Ensure seamless integration of SCADA with existing systems and other utility operations.
  • Plan, execute, and oversee projects related to substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Coordinate with project stakeholders, including engineers, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Perform commissioning and testing of substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to verify system functionality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues identified during testing and commissioning.
  • Develop and implement maintenance programs for substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Monitor system performance and implement necessary upgrades or improvements.
  • Ensure systems are updated with the latest software patches and security updates.
  • Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures to protect substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
  • Develop and enforce cybersecurity protocols and incident response plans.
  • Provide training and technical support to operations and maintenance staff.
  • Develop training materials and conduct workshops on substation automation and SCADA systems.
  • Offer ongoing support and troubleshooting assistance to ensure smooth system operation.
  • Prepare detailed reports on project progress, system performance, and any issues encountered.
  • Maintain accurate records of all automation and SCADA activities, including design documents, test results, and maintenance logs.
  • Present findings and updates to stakeholders, including management and clients.
  • Ensure all substation automation and SCADA activities comply with local and international standards and regulations.
  • Prepare and submit necessary documentation for regulatory approvals and compliance.
  • Stay updated with industry standards, best practices, and regulatory changes.

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

 

Experience:

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in power transmission and distribution.

Proven track record of successfully managing similar projects.

 

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in SCADA software (GE, Siemens, ABB) and automation protocols (IEC 61850, DNP3).

Strong understanding of networking, communication protocols, and cybersecurity measures.

Experience with PLC programming and HMI development.

 

Other Skills:

Excellent project management and organizational skills.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
