Duties & Responsibilities


Adjusts the surveying instruments such as prisms, theodolites, levels, GPS and electronic distance-measuring equipment.

Positions and holds the vertical rods, or targets, that theodolite operators use for sighting to measure angles, distances and elevations.

Lays out grids and determines horizontal and vertical controls.

Records survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, sketches and inked tracings.

Searches for section corners and survey points.

Compares survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data.

Sets out and recovers stakes, marks and other monumentation.

Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment.

Gathers data and/or samples to be used in the preparation of scientific or engineering reports.

Prepares or assists in the preparation of scientific, engineering or survey documents

Performs routine tasks.

Job Requirements


High School Diploma or equivalent

Knowledge of data collections and survey procedures experience

Basic understanding of the equipment and technology to perform surveying activities Physical demands and Working Conditions

Perform bending, kneeling, standing, balancing, stooping, lifting and carrying objects weighing 30 lbs.

Must be able to climb ladders, work at heights and on elevated platforms, and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.

Near vision - the ability to see details at close range within a few feet of the observer.

Finger Dexterity — The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
