Job Summary

Assist surveyor or crew chief with surveying duties, including instrument setup, construction staking and preparing the job site for survey. This job generally requires only a high school degree; Rodman also has to clear any brush or trees away from the survey line--typically by himself. He also lays out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements. An employee will be expected to develop and demonstrate proficiency within the following responsibilities and competencies.

Duties & Responsibilities


Work with Survey Crew chief to collect project data as needed.

Understand project scope of work.

Transporting and setting up the instruments and equipment.

Preparing the job site for survey.

Clear any brush or trees away from the survey line typically by him/her.

Laying out stakes to prepare for elevation measurements.

Communicate effectively with crewmembers and other survey staff using surveying terminology.

Communicate with other Crew Chiefs, Program Manager, and Team Leaders on workload status in order to meet designated chargeability goals.

Assist in project control by adhering to set project parameters.

Maintain professional and technical knowledge including reviewing professional and market segment publications and participate in applicable professional societies and trade associations as authorized by Team Leader.

Must be able to pass a drug test and background check

School degree (graduated from High school).

1 year of field surveying experience required.

Demonstrate high level of proficiency at the Survey Crew Member level.

Highly proficient in care, cleaning, and use of a variety of surveying tools and equipment.

Highly proficient in construction procedures

Highly proficient in required safety procedures and practices

Must be able to work with minimum supervision.

Strong Dari and Pashto verbal communication skills.

Adherence to Product Quality Standards.

Travel Requirements:

85 % Travel along Gardez to Khost Road to visit construction work sites.
Physical Requirements:

All IRD personnel who work in Afghanistan must be physically able: (1) to function for extended periods of time wearing personal protective body armor weighing approximately 35 pounds and a helmet weighing approximately 5 pounds; (2) to walk comfortably over rough terrain; and (3) to ascend up to six flights of stairs on a daily basis. Candidates will be required to provide medical certification to IRD\'s satisfaction of the absence of any conditions that might impair a candidate\'s ability to meet these requirements.
