Take a strategic view of the results to be delivered and to conceptualize how the CARD-F program can fit into the overall development objectives in the project area
Support the preparation of work plans that define the activities to be carried out under project, progress reports on project implementation and all other major project deliverables
Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the team members
Provide guidance on monitoring and evaluating of project performance/ progress and inform & report CARD-F Management on the outcome
Identify sustainable mechanisms for delivering quality veterinary services and if necessary make proposals for supporting veterinary service providers
Support improved fodder production within the catchment areas and make recommendations on mechanisms to enhance the availability of concentrate feeds to these producers e.g. working with input suppliers, establishment of feed mills etc
Make recommendations on the economics and benefits of improving the feed value of wheat straw by urea or other treatments. If benefits are proven demonstrate the technology and support its wider application
Provision of livestock sector training and workshops to the project beneficiaries
Train farmers on correct hygiene measures on clean milk production and delivery
Train farmers to improve animal breeding to improve the genetic base for higher milk production including the use of artificial insemination (A.I.)
Liaise with other project staff in order to assist in provision of advisory services for farmers to understand the required improvements in livestock performance
Make regular visits to project sites and assess the need for demonstration activities
Design and establish milk collection system
Make recommendations on the design of an incentive scheme to encourage the production of all seasons milk
Develop awareness among dairy farming households of their responsibilities as commercial milk suppliers.
Any other tasks assigned by the Project Director.
Master degree in Veterinary Sciences with Specialization in Diary Sector, preferably with training relating to Agribusiness.
Skills:
Must be fluent in Dari, Pashto and English.
Strong team orientation and staff development skills;
Good written and oral communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills;
Good process design and implementation skills;
Ability to think strategically, as well as excellent innovation, lateral thinking and problems solving skills; and
Knowledge and understanding of areas covered by the CARD-F.
Experience:
Minimum 5-7 Years of working experience in the dairy sector
