Job Summary

Project Overview:

The First MicroFinanceBank – Afghanistan (FMFB-A), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), is launching a financial inclusion initiative aimed at supporting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), with a particular focus on women and youth entrepreneurs who face barriers to accessing traditional financing.

The initiative seeks to empower members of savings groups through Sharia-compliant microloans (e.g., Murabaha, Mudaraba) and matching grants, enabling them to establish or grow small businesses, enhance income, and improve livelihoods. FMFB-A will act as a financial service facilitator under this initiative, subject to finalization of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with UNDP.

To support implementation, FMFB-A is seeking two qualified Trainers for its provincial offices in Badakhshan and Takhar provinces.

Job purpose:

The Trainer will be responsible for building awareness and delivering training to the targeted savings groups on Sharia-compliant financial services, including the processes and benefits of Murabaha financing and matching grants. Additionally, the trainer will support savings group members (including women-led and youth-led groups) to enhance their entrepreneurial skills, improve market linkages, and strengthen their capacity in areas such as product development, sales, and marketing.

Note: This position is contingent upon the signing of a formal agreement between FMFB-A and UNDP and the availability of project funding. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted only after final confirmation of project launch.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Conduct capacity assessments of MSMEs regarding market linkages, product development, sales, marketing, and Sharia-compliant financing principles.
  • Design tailored training materials based on assessment results and in alignment with FMFB-A and UNDP guidelines.
  • Facilitate training sessions and awareness campaigns on Islamic financial principles (Murabaha, Mudaraba) and their distinction from conventional loans.
  • Educate saving group members on eligibility criteria, disbursement procedures, and benefits of Islamic finance and matching grants.
  • Provide technical advisory services to MSMEs to enhance business skills and market readiness.
  • Deliver capacity-building training modules that include practical exercises, case studies, and group discussions in local languages.
  • Collaborate with microfinance institutions and ensure alignment with regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide one-on-one technical support to MSMEs, including assistance in accessing new and cross-border markets.
  • Submit regular progress reports, training evaluations, and consultation summaries to the FMFB-A and UNDP PMU.
  • Ensure that training activities are inclusive, participatory, and effectively reach the targeted beneficiaries.
  • Perform other project-related duties as assigned by the line manager.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Education, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in training, preferably in financial services or microfinance.
  • Strong understanding of Sharia-compliant finance and adult learning methodologies.
  • Excellent facilitation, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in English and local languages (Dari and/or Pashto); strong report writing and email communication skills.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in MS Office and Gmail.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to remote field locations in Badakhshan and Takhar.
  • Experience in conducting training needs assessments and developing content accordingly.
  • Ability to coach and mentor participants and adapt to diverse learning needs.
