Background
The Government of Afghanistan is currently establishing the policy and legal framework, mechanisms and processes to ensure fair competition in the market place, and to enhance the capability within the Government to implement policies and laws on market competition. The Government has established the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Directorate (CPCPD) in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to address concerns about anti-competitive activities and losses in consumer welfare.
The Fair Competition Department of the CPCPD will be responsible for investigating and analysing alleged, actual or potential anti-competitive activities. The directorate has recruited competition analysis and investigation experts and consumer protection analysis and investigation experts to carry out the process. The translator will be required to work side-by-side with the expats, director of CPCPD, managers and the CPCPD staff to provide with his/her support when required.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Under the direct supervision of the director of the Consumer Competition and Consumer Protection Directorate , and in cooperation with the Competition and Consumer Authority Secretariat , the responsibilities and duties of the incumbent shall include:
- the provision of proper, clear, faithful interpretation from English into Dari/Pashto and from Dari/Pashto into English on a variety of written texts, official and internal documents, and to provide assistance in terms of interpretation during various conferences/events and meetings of the CPCPD using the standard, clear and accurate language appropriate for the public policy and economic service context.
- provision of proper, clear and faithful translation of written documents of the mentioned languages.
- translating and developing effective messages, and materials such as success stories, reports, press release, press invitation, narrations, scripts, etc.
- provide active support to the CPCPD web and database administrators by translating interesting news and articles, success stories, updates, newsletters, progress reports for effective website communication in the above said languages. Provide effective and timely translation of the above as and when required.
check appropriate references to ensure exact understanding and use of Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and specifically the CPCPD technical terminologies;
consult colleagues and specialised technical dictionaries/ glossaries;
keep abreast with developments in the language field, both in the source and target languages, by compiling and regularly up-dating specific terminologies, phrases, acronyms and special expressions in order to widen the stock of vocabulary with the aim of enhancing skill and ability in economics and legal terms;
help develop terminology/lexicons of the CPCPD
perform other related duties that may be assigned by the CPCPD director and advisors, and regularly report to director/advisors on progress.
Qualifications :
The candidate should have a Bachelors Degree from the faculty of literature; Bachelors degree in interpretation/translation from a recognised school of interpretation/translation is preferable
Additional qualifications in languages or related disciplines, such as literature, journalism, economics or law will be an added advantage.
